Default Help!! Insurance Denied Post Op!

I recently applied for new health care insurance and was denied. However, I was offered coverage for a much higher rate. I mean... a REAL HIGHER RATE!!
I have, for the most part, been very health since my surgery and have not had to go in for any problems.

Some questions maybe some of you can help me with:

1. Can the companies discriminate us like that?

2. Will I ever get a lower rate of coverage?

3. Can I appeal this?

Any and all help/advice/personal experience is welcome and I REALLY appreciate any input!

Thanks,

I was denied to. We are considered at risk for 3 years post op...as we can still have complications that arise later. I opted for a higher premium...thank god I did...as I was in the hospital twice last year...without that insurance, I would have had to shell out $25K. I was helathy and had no problems until the ER stuff happend..so at least get coverage for emergancy stuff.

Unless you can qualify at work...employer based insurance can't discriminate, but private can.

I have found that if you apply for private insurance you can be denied for being high risk. If, however, you were to get a job and HR offered insurance you would automaticly be covered, and they couldn't not cover you because of your conditions.
