Default ASAP Advice

Hey Folks,

I could really use some advice ASAP. As you all know, I've been having some trouble with my bowels - so the good news is, things are starting to move. The bad news is, I still feel really bad; progressed to shivers, extreme cold, and throwing up (yeah, I stood up this morning and ended up dry heaving for half an hour - FUN!) and now the latest is that my fingernails are turning blue. I'm having trouble evaluating HOW blue - I mean, I think it's a noticeable discoloration, but I'm not having any trouble breathing, so I don't know if there's an oxygen problem, and I'm not feeling any tingling anywhere, so I don't think it's a circulation problem (the only indication is that I'm really cold and shivery, but hell, that could just be run of the mill flu).

I spoke with my surgeon's office and their recommendation was to go to the ER, because blue is bad, but to be honest, I REALLY don't want to do it because
1. the ER takes FOREVER
2. I'm having trouble evaluating if this is really a problem or not, and
3. I really DON'T want to leave work without a clear indication of a real emergency. I'm still lucid, I don't feel confused, just weak and shivery like the flu, combined with the nausea.

The doc said that while the recommend I go to the ER, I don't HAVE to, and at the worst they want me in the office tomorrow at 1pm sharp for office hours. I made the deal with them that if I feel worse, I'll leave work.

I talked it over with my boyfriend and he made the suggestion of photographing my nails every hour to see if I can track a change, and make an evaluation from there.

So, shoot - is this really something serious?? I mean, I just thought blue fingernails meant I was cold, but it's been steadily creeping up all week and today it just really caught me by surprise at how discolored they seemed, and the nurse's point blank, "That sounds bad and without being able to evaluate it, you should go" freaked me out. What do I do?

Take a nice hot bath. If your nail beds don't return to a nice shade of pink then you have something going on......go.......now......don't forget the bubbles.

I can understand not wanting to go through the ER but if nothing else I would at least try to get to an urgent care today rather than waiting for an appointment tomorrow.

The purpleness has gone away somewhat in my hands. I got the okay to go to the doctor tomorrow, but my boss basically said in no uncertain terms that I'm not allowed to miss any more work.

It's probably just the flu; sorry for freaking out on everyone; I've just been sick for so long, it always feels like one thing after another. I just want to be healthy dammit!!
