This is TOTALLY outrageous!!! Has anyone heard anything????? Some people KILL me!!!! So, they think that she will be at work if she's DEAD from not getting medical attention. I don't ever cuss, but there is no word to fit this woman but "DUMB ASS"!

Wow... I agree.. I am betting you could find a job where you are more than just a body (because really, how productive can you be when you feel like that?).. I hope all goes well at the doc, and I really hoppe your nails arent blue anymore!

Good morning folks...welcome to the wonderful world of entertainment!

My hours are 9am - 7pm, flat rate, no OT, and I often stay until 7:30-8pm at night. It's just the way showbiz works.

I agreed to work for this woman for a year and it's pilot season (when all the new TV shows get made), so it's the busiest time of year. Maybe I'm delusional (completely possible) but I feel like I should honor my word, and that will sit better with my conscience than cutting and running. It's only another 2 months. Besides, she has still kept me employed through the multiple times I HAVE been in the hospital over the past year, so I kind of feel like I owe her to at least fulfill my promise (and I desperately need the health insurance benefit). I dunno...I always swing back and forth between feeling like she's a complete nut and feeling like an a**hole because I'm sick so much and feel totally unreliable (having her say, "You're sick more often than anyone I've ever known" doesn't help my conscience either!).

I think I just have the flu; I feel like crap, but I'm back at work and going to the doctor at 1pm. I just want to get through the day. The good news is that my nails aren't blue anymore - maybe I was just cold or it had something to do with the dry heaving.

You guys seriously rock; it really feels good that everyone is looking out for me! It means so, so much to me, especially when I feel like if I want to stay in entertainment, I have to stick out this BS.

I would have posted this earlier last night, but I went home and went right to bed by 8pm, to be honest.

Thanks again, everyone! And Whit - YES: I really, REALLY want to know if I have ANY protection in this case with a 2 person tiny company.

Amanda, thank you for taking the time to update us. We all care about you and are worried. Just a bunch of mother hens, I guess! I'm glad you are getting into the doctor. Hopefully it is just the flu but you need to take care of yourself. I'm wondering if you have any rights under the FMLA? That is something you may want to check into. That at least would cover you for anything that has to do with your wls. Just a thought.

Let us know what the doctor has to say. And make sure you keep yourself hydrated.

Sorry you're having so much trouble. First of all, have you filled out a family leave form? It's a law and they can't deny you. I have fibromyalgia and missed a lot of work due to it. I was a neonatal nurse and hospitals just hate having someone call in sick. They had to honor family leave and could not fire me over that. That's also a law.
My daughter, her boyfriend and 4 yr. old son were killed 9yrs ago in freak accident. The policy was 3 days for bereavement and they were calling me on 4th day. Someone on the staff informed state and boy did hell break loose.
They had to let me have more time. After 5 more years of grieving, depression, and fibromyalgia my Dr. said no more work. Your body, mind can't handle the stress anymore(thus the weight gain) I had been there 30yrs.
Anyway I hope you get well and keep us posted.

Her company doesn't have FMLA b/c there are only 2 people in the company - I am researching what rights she has today whether it be under ADA or some other protective act so that she is at least armed with info to take care of herself.

Amanda - here's my wish with you going into work sick (not that I wish anything horrible for you, but you know me well enough to know what I am getting across): That you are with your boss close enough today to either barf in her lap or at least her close proximity; that whatever flu germs you have are directly transferred to her so that she can experience exactly the same thing you are so that she can have an ounce of human empathy for you...a dedicated and loyal employee. Harumph!!!
