Thanks everyone for the replies. So far today I'm feeling a little more energy, but I haven't done anything except take a shower so far! The DH doesn't want me to go to the gym--thinks I'm pushing too hard too soon.

I've got an email in to my nutritionist about increasing my vitamin intake. I have no idea how my iron is. They took blood everyday while I was in the hospital, but none since.

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I was a lightweight going into this so I hit one-der-land in no time. I've lost about 25lbs from the beginning of my 2-week liquid diet started on Jan 9 till today. Feels pretty awesome! Just wait till Century Club though! That'll be right around my goal weight!

I was off for awhile w/complications, but still, always seemed pretty perky, except while in the hospital and when I had pneumonia of course! Still, I've taken Optisource vitamins (Walgreens sells them) from the beginning. I also take a calcium chewable...morning and night. I do a sublingual B-12 as well. I just did my 3 month labs and they were fine. The B-12 result was high...and I was a bit low on the protein, but nothing major. I believe the vitamins is what keeps me feeling good! Listen to Dr Dyann...I think we need to take Bariatric vitamins since we've had the surgery. Regular vitamins just don't cut it. I have 2 friends who had the surgery and neither of them have taken the Bariatric vitamins. Both have had problems w/anemia and/or low energy, etc. I'm only 3 months out, so not an expert by any means, but I'd say get a better vitamin so you don't have problems later on.

My nutritionist suggested moving from the Flintstone chewable to Centrum chewables. Instead I went out and got the Optisource vitamins at Walgreens. I also got some sublingual B complex, but they want me to hold off on that until I get some levels taken. I'm going in tomorrow (14 days post-op) to see the bloodsuckers!

I was really disappointed with the conversation I had with my patient care coordinator. She seems to think I'm eating too much for as early out as I am. I guess I'm supposed to only be eating 1oz five times a day plus all my liquids. I've been able to get 2-2.5oz in at a sitting and that's eating slowly, listening very carefully to my pouch and stopping when I feel the least bit full. Oh, and she was very discouraging about my eating lf ricotta this early. She said it sounded too rich for my pouch. It's high protein, low fat and is tolerated well. So WTF? Anyway, she wants me to eat more veggies...what? I'm not supposed to even be doing mushy veggies yet! Sorry for the rant. I'm thinking about sending my user name and password to Fitday to my nutritionist and asking her to look at what I'm eating to see what she thinks.

I was on clear liquids for two weeks post op and started with a scrambled egg on day 14. Low fat ricotta is perfect at two weeks. You need to heed the warning from your people but does she work with bariatric patients? I wasn't allow well cooked veggies until 6 weeks. Right now everything had to be protein as you can only eat so little. JMO

Rene'

I think you are doing just fine I really just think that you need to listen to your pouch. Not all pouches are the same and you are tollerating the ricotta and the amounts just fine, right? Try not to stress, and listen to your body. We weren't allowed veggies till later, either, BTW.

Thanks Dr. Dyann andTracie! You've both confirmed my thoughts. As far as if my PCC works with bariatric patients, yes she does, but I'm not really sure if she has any medical/nutritional credentials. I always thought of her as an administrator or a go between for patients and the docs. Hmmph.

Rene' you are doing great. Right now, it's VERY hard to mess this up and eat TOO much. I think that's a little silly of a statement to say you are eating too much. As long as you are eating planned meals, slowly, and stopping in 15 minutes, it is near impossible for you to overeat. Or you'd be in pain.

As to the vitamins, I will tell you what I always told the girls in support... they are KEY. I reccomend liquid vitamins. The pill form only absorbs maybe 65% of the vitamin and the rest is lost in digestion for a normal tummy. It's even less for GBS patients. Some liquids taste awful and others are packed with sugar. I reccomend the Global Health Trax Daily Vita Complex. There is a link under the thread "what a deal on vitamins". Also you need excellerated amounts of B1/Thiamine. At least 100 mg a day. Sometimes that is forgotten and as Kelly from Dr. C 's office told me they are noticing significant deficiencies in this vitamin in their patients. Not enough B1 will lead to exhaustion. But this early on, I'm sure it's just an adjustment. Just take it easy for a few days, and don't stress. You are doing great.
