Default meds for pain?

I had a migraine for 5 days I could take Excedrin before surgery and it would go away fast! My doctor told me that I could only take Tylenol now. Tylenol is a joke for me it doesn't even touch any pain I may have! Anyone experienced this? I went to the doc yesterday and they gave me an injection of Imitrex (spelling?) I don't want to go in for an injection every time. Just curious about others.

I was told I could take ANYTHING to get rid of the headache...they just don't want us doing the other stuff on a daily basis. In fact, Excederin Migrane was recommended specifically. Hope you're feeling better...Migranes keep us humble.

I was told similiar - I can take what I needed for a headache, but not to take it more than two days in a row. It thins the blood, but also creates ulcers in our new little tummies.

Hope you're feeling better!

Default Migraine

I'm sorry for your headache!! I just had one last night, I get them often and very bad. I don't know if this will help, but here is my 'plan' (if that is the right word )

If I feel it just starting I will take Excedrin Migraine (it has been ok'd for the occasional use by my doctors)

If it comes on a little faster I can take either a Maxalt pill or if too late I have a Maxalt tablet that disolves in your mouth.

If, like last night, it just wakes me out of a dead sleep becuase it hurts so bad, I take an Imitrex injection (I have them at home) and then throw up for a while and then I can usually go back to sleep.

Some 'home' remedies that might work, if you wanna try them.
Icy Hot (or Bengay type stuff) on your neck and shoulders, then lay down for a while
A nice hot steamy shower with some lavendar drops on the edge of the shower
If you have or know of those magnets they sell for people to put on their backs or knees, try putting one either in the middle of your forhead or the middle of the back of your neck
Depending on if hot or cold feels good, either a cup of hot vanilla tea or a glass of iced vanilla tea (I don't know why the vanilla works)
If all else fails, curl up in a ball and cry, sometimes that will make you so tired you can get to sleep, I know that sounds bad, but when you get 3 or 4 a month, sometimes you just do what you gotta do!

I talked to my primary doctor today and he said he couldn't give me the injections to take home because I did have a bit of a reaction in the office. He called me in something I can take if it is bed time that is a pain killer and he also called me in something else that starts with a M I am good for now but I get these awful migraines once a month when my hormones change! Thanks for your response! I have my 6-month check up on March 1st and I am going to ask about the Excedrin because that stuff really works for me!
THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Default Migraines

I get migraines and have a terrible time getting rid of them. I use a heating pad on my head...and sometimes slap a lidocaine patch on my forehead. I take Tylenol based pain killers...if taking anything else, do as Duckie said..and take Pepcid or an acid blocker.

Thumbs up Imatrix tablets

I take the tablet form of Immitrex (sumatriptan). Works slower than the injection, but for those of us that don't care for needles...
