Default Think "Moving" Thoughts...

So I'm having a problem. What else is new?

This all started in December before the docs discovered the hernia, but basically, I couldn't go. I was always very regular before, and then it was suddenly 9 days and I hadn't had a BM and that's around the time I landed in the hospital. It took awhile, but after the second stay in the hospital, things finally started moving again, and now...nothing, AGAIN.

I've been taking extra fiber (benefiber), drinking water, trying anything to get myself going again, but NOTHING is working. If I want to have a BM, I usually have to take a suppository and then it is still VERY painful and straining. They weren't able to find an obstruction the second time around in the hospital, but nonetheless, things aren't going anywhere.

I've now been waiting patiently since Monday for something to happen and I'm starting to be driven nuts and very uncomfortable and unhappy. If it isn't an obstruction and I was already regular before, and nothing has changed in my diet except trying to increase my fiber and water since being out of the hospital, what the hell gives??

Oye sheesh, sweetie!!! I am so sorry you are going through this and being in pain. I have no words of wisdom for you, and hope our resident medical peeps will chime in, but the obvious question is - have you called your doc yet?

Please let me know what is going on - I was thinking about you earlier this week - perhaps this is why... Hang in there hun...and call your doc!!!

Spoke w/ the nurse at my surgeon's office: the order of the weekend is a milk of magnesia cocktail - YUM! I can just buy that stuff at a drugstore right? If I'm still having problems, I'll probably have to go in and figure it out with them next week. ARG!!!!

Milk of Magnesia (they don't call in MOM for nothing!) - yummy - that should work to get everything moving, sweetie. Just be sure to be around a bathroom, and have a great mag to read

Amanda what a very uncomfortable feeling you must be feeling right now sweety. Have you had any Milk of Mag? If you still can't go best advice is to head on back to the ER or your PCP. Don't hesitate. Not having a BM for that is very dangerous.

Milk of Magnesia works for me every time. At one point I went almost two weks without a bowel movement and three tablespoons of MOM got things moving right away. Unfortunately, they kept on moving for the whole day and as soon as I would leave the bathroom and try to lay down I had to run to the bathroom again lol. It was annoying, but a relief nonetheless. Now I use MOM every now and then if I feel like I want to go but need a little "help", what I'm scared of is growing dependent on it cause I haven't had any in about five days and I can't seem to go even though I feel like I want to.

My surgeon suggested a daily dose of Senokot-S. Believe me, my first 2 bms post-op were so painful that I went that same day and got the stuff!! I did cut back on the dose to one pill versus since the tide turned the other way and I got diarrhea instead.

I hope you get some relief soon and your doctor can figure out what the hold up is!

Try the MOM if that doesn't work within a MAX of 24 hrs... get ahold of that MD or go to the ED. I also recommend that you don't go far from a bathroom.
Make sure you increase your H2O intake also cuz you will probably end up with some diarrhea. GOOD LUCK!
