Amanda, do what Duckie says. Take it as often as you can. Sometimes you have to get the really hard stuff out of the way before you can really clean out. Also, if you have any suppositories you may want to try that. That will stimulate you from the other end.

So I've been walking, and the MoM says I can only take it once a day. I took another suppository and FINALLY got some relief, and not all of it was granite either. Is greenish, grayish, blackish bad? At this stage of the game, I honestly don't know. I feel a bit better, but still semi-blocked - this is definitely not all of it.
I'm going to report to the doc in the morning, but I'm not sure where to go from here My bowels definitely have something a little weird going on, and I can't keep living on MoM and suppositories to make me go...right?

No, you can't live on them forever BUT you need them right now to get things moving. Take your MOM again in the a.m. and CALL YOUR MD first thing in the morning .

Listen to nurse Duckie!
Don't worry about the color. That sounds okay. As long as it isn't a tarry/maroon color. I'm glad you've gotten a bit of relief. Maybe now that the harder stuff is out of the way you will get better relief with the MOM. Sometimes it takes a couple days of going to really empty out. Make sure you call your doctor though and let him know what is going on.

a message from the queen of constipation...
With all the pain meds I take, I am always very constipated. Here are a few suggestions:
There is a liquid called Mag Citrate that is only about $2 a bottle, and will act like blasting caps in relieving you. Don't eat a bunch of cheese. If you can tolerate it, have a bowl of French Onion Soup. The onions will move stuff along also.
I was told that sometimes taking fiber can actually absorb too much liquid and cause the constipation it's supposed to cure. Try cutting back on the fiber for the time being and just work with stuff to unclog you. If you take iron supplements, hold off on those, they are very constipating.
Jello binds. Greasy meat helps. Onion rings combine onion and grease--very slippery. I have always gotten relief by eating spicy food--it always lets me know when it's on its way out. Oh, corn! corn and popcorn kind of scrape a layer off if you can handle that.
If I think about it awhile I can probably come up with more. Rene' was right about the Senocot, it's not as irritating of the intestines as MOM, but MOM always works for me, so if I have it bad (more than 2 days) I take the MOM.
I feel much better knowing that everyone now knows everything I go through to poo. Yep.

I have taken everything...I am also Queen of constipation. I even popped the gel caps (colace and peri-colace) and took the liquid to absorb it. They tasted disgusting and didn't work. I took Citrucel and Benefiber and Metamucil because Dr C recommended it. I also took MOM, but would die at work and couldn't handle the cramping and weakness..it cleans me out. My New GI doc gave me a prescribed powder that he says is a miracle. I took it to the pharmacy and they had to order it for me. I get it tomorrow. he says I can take it daily for long term and it won't hurt and I will become normal without crapping out rabbit pellets...sorry TMI.
If this new RX works for me, I will let you all know...maybe it will be the saviour to wls patients.
Greasy food sometimes helps, but makes me dump..so I have to choose. Sunflower seeds and popcorn used to help, but not anymore.
When I stopped taking the fiber supplements, it actually helped...dunno why. I noticed if I eat a bit of preservatives like McDonalds Cheeseburgers, it helps move things along. I don't recommend making a habit of it, but it helps me. And coffee sometimes helps...if it is strong...at least that is what I have to do.
I was thinking of trying good old prunes..my Mom used to give them to us...but fruit makes me dump, too.

I had constipation so bad I couldn't stand myself when I was prego and my OB dr. told me the minute I get up in the morning to drink a glass of VERY cold water, juice, or milk and that stimulates the bowels. It worked for me then. It's worth a try. I guess at this point you would try anything. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone! Things are sort of kinda moving, but I'm to the point where I feel bloated and nauseous and going to the bathroom (no matter the consistency) is painful. Spoke with the doctor this morning; they're going to have the dietician call me and see if we can do something diet-wise to help. In the meantime...
**UPDATE**
Okay, just got off the phone with the dietician. What a waste of my time! "Drink more water" I want to scream! I feel like no one is freaking listening to me over there! Although, if so many of you guys have this problem too (and thank god for your suggestions!), is it a normal side effect? That's where I get really confused. I mean, I had NO problem going to the bathroom at all until December, and now I'm going more than a week without pooping, and even my "remedies" are starting to (pardon the pun) poop out on me I'm just so frustrated. I don't know if this is just a digestive change or a real problem, and that's what's driving me nuts on top of the bloated, nauseous, painful feeling.
Thanks for the suggestions - I'll try some greasy food, but I tend to dump on that too, but I'm willing to try anything at this point. I haven't had popcorn since before surgery, so I don't know if I'm okay with that or not; but corn is okie dokie, so I'll make sure I have some of that. MoM still, and perhaps I'll pick up some of the Mag Citrate - I'm feeling desperate! I just want to be normal again
In the meantime, the doctor's office wants me to call in with updates every 48 hours, and I have a follow up on 2/16. *SIGH*
