When did everyone get rid of their big clothes?
Before surgery I went through my closet and tried to get rid of all the clothes that I didn't wear. I took out a couple of large garbage bags full. It was great and I felt like I was shedding starting on the process of shedding the obese me.
But now I have lost 30lbs and my clothes are obviously too big for me. This weekend I went through my drawers and closet again. I like most people have a few different sizes sitting the closet and drawers so it is not that I am short on clothes. But I bagged up another couple of large garbage bags of clothes. It felt horrible. It was so hard to take clothes out of my drawers that were a regular staple in my life before surgery. It felt like getting rid of an old comfortable friend. Part of me is still scared that I wll still need those clothes and i am afraid to throw them out. Part of me is scared that I will wake up in the morning and want to put on a oversized shirt and pants and they just won't be there. My husband asked if I wanted to just put the bags in the basement until I was ready to get rid of them. But I can't seem to move the bags out of my room.
I know it will feel good to get rid of them and I don't need to buy clothes yet but it is still really hard.
How had everyone else dealt with their changing size?

After spending the first 3 months wearing clothes that I really shouldn't (they were getting baggier by the day and looked bad) my friends and family had an 'intervention' Now every 2 weeks either one of my 2 best friends or my mother comes to my house on Saturday morning (I'm a little 'structured' I clean and do laundry every Saturday) They actually stand in my closet and if something whatever size (last week was 20's) they make me try it on, if it looks bad we put it in a garbage bag. After we are done, we go out to breakfast and then hit the thrift store. Drop off the bag we just collected and then I get to buy some 'new' clothes!

I'm down to an 8 from a 28, and still have alot of clothes that are way way too big for me. Most of them are t-shirts that I still wear to bed, but I can't force myself to part with my favorites. I should, it would make things so much easier, but I just can't do it.

I donated about 6 big garbage bags full (I have probably enough for another 3 or 4 bags I could fill), there's always a need for larger sized clothes at the Salvation Army, etc... I still had/have many things in the 22-26 size range that are brand new with tags that I tried to sell on Ebay, but they never sold, so now I have to figure out whether to try and put them in a consignment shop locally or just donate them.

PURGE!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing feels better then finally getting rid of all that "stuff". I was giving away bits and pieces at my support group meetings, but I still held on to a bunch of stuff, "just in case". Plus I had sooo much expensive clothing, it was doubly difficult. But one day after support I made Cindy go upstairs with me and just started handing her stuff, by the time I was done my closet was 1/2 empty. About two months later I spent a Saturday in there and threw out everything! From belts to shoes to everything! I put it in bags, called the Salvation Army and they came and whisked it away. And nothing felt so good as that! Other then all the shopping I continue to do to replace my wardrobe!

Angie I can relate. I am still pre-op and have been going through my clothes to get rid of those that I don't wear now. I can't seem to get rid of them either. They are sitting in my garage. I determined that I would go back through them in 2 months and see how I felt about them at that point. If there were still clothes that I couldn't let go of yet I would keep them and the rest I would donate.

It really is hard to get rid of them. Having gone up and down the same 60 lbs over and over, I always needed them again. I think time is all the is going to allow me to let the "big" clothes go.

I agree with Robin, Purge!!!! You aren't holding on to the clothes, it is something else emotional. Sit down some time, or take a walk, or something... and figure out what it is that you are trully trying to hold on to. Why would you want to keep the clothes, the smaller ones are so much cuter, so it has to be something emotional that only you are going to be able to figure out. Good luck to you!

Purging is soooo hard. I'm not a clothes kinda guy. In fact I have the typical "guy t-shirt" collection of shirts I've had for probably 10(some of them longer) years. Some of them are old, baggy, and beat up. Do I throw them away? NOOO! They are gym wear.

But even that isn't as valid as it was a couple months back. I've gotten down from somewhere between 3X and 5X to a MEDIUM! That is actually still freaking me out. I don't really remember being smaller than a large since before I graduated high school.

Default What shall I do with my old clothes????

How does the old disco song go... Burn baby Burn! Just kidding. I did not burn them but boy did I stuff them in the trash bag to donate as soon as possible. I have been over weight for the past 10 years. I am now 32 years old and feel like I am 32 years old. No more felling like mother of the grandma. I have very fine taste so I have always dressed nice so I understand having a hard time letting go of all those clothes you paid for BUT!!!!! go to the mall and take a stroll and see what is out there. I should have owned half of Lane Bryant with the amount of clothes I owned. I am still in Lane Bryant even after dropping 68 pounds but I can now get things from other stores I went from a 24 to a 14\16 in tops and a 16 in pants!

Back to your question. Go to the mall, Target, Walmart the thrift store what ever fits your budget and find 1 outfit you like that is your size. Buy it and go home try it on and look in the mirror. Then try on the big one. You will see you look like a different person. You will feel even more beautiful than you already are! Shed the clothes! We are evolving to new people and naturally the shopper in me says our wardrobe should reflect it.

We have to treat ourselves some time and now seems better than later. I still have 81 more pounds I want to lose but I bought this beautiful evening gown for a black ties event next week. I know I will only wear it once but I worked my bootie off to get down to a size so I could shop in the "normal person section" and you know what I did it! Forget the high price tag on the gown I feel like Cinderella.

I tell myself I will NEVER NEVER NEVER be fat again and I will not be because I know better choices and exercise and you do to. Share your clothes and be free of the fat. Don't let it hold you down.

I will be thinking about you. Good luck!
