Talking Needed: list of post-op supplements

OK - Could someone please give me a list of supplements like Unjury(?), protein shakes, etc. - especially the ones that will be needed early post-op - where to get them, best prices, taste, flavors, etc. It would be so nice to have that in one place. I know that the Bariatic services center with my surgeon has many, but I suspect that the prices may be way high. Many thanks to all of you!

I dont have the answer you are looking for off the top of my head (mostly because I snuck into work for a few hours.. shhh..) ..

But.. I can tell you I have started a list, and most of them I got from searching this forum for vitamins.. there are quite a few posts...

Best not to stock up on large quantites of stuff since your tastes may change after surgery and then you would have wasted a ton of dough. Try samples now, and if you like them, order small packets for after surgery just in case. Vitalady.com and bariatricedge.com have samples you can order...

Smile thanks

Vitamins, too, Jen - any suggestions are welcome. I agree - I had thought about my tastes changing after surgery - for the better, I hope - I have such a sweet tooth - I crave sweets after every meal - even breakfast! I don't remember being that bad when I was young.

so funny you said that about the fish - before surgery for fish i only ate canned tuna and shrimp that was it, now i crave salmon and cod - i buy the blueliner ones, they have lemon pepper, herb and garlic, high in protein low in everything else, i also buy the salmon patties from costco, i eat fish 3-4 times per week now, and anyone that knew me before (my husband included) cannot believe it when they see me eating fish now (i had a huge problem with fish, mind of course, bones freaked me out) still dont eat the fish with bones, but i actually like the taste, fish is so flaky and soft and tender, easy to eat and i find now that the better things are easier to eat, i feel so much better after eating healthy things that it is easier to choose the healthy foods, so glad for that...i was never a fan of cheese much either, now i live off cheese strings, i hated yogurt before, now i dont mind it, found the danone one made with splenda, low carb, low sugar, its very good - funny how much tastes really do change, and yes i would say for the better, i dont like sweet things - tried a piece of chocolate, and had to spit it out right away as it was so sweet and yucky tasting - like i said for some reason that healthy things just seem so normal and so much better.

i dont do protein supplements, have never found one i could tolerate, i am lucky though i can do 80+ grams of protein per day with food so i dont need the supplements, but i still take vitamins, i use the Materna ones twice daily, they seem to do what i need them to.

good luck on your journey

What you can tolerate now may be different than post op. I had several protein drinks preop and could not gag them down post op. I now use Nectar by Syntrax which I started at about 3months out.

Fish........could do in the early weeks, then went months not being able to tolerate, now I love it again....makes no sense...but its the way it was.
