Default Finally made it to 2nd post op day!!!!!!

Hi everybody! Im so excited
I can,t believe I made it finally!!! I have so many things to say but I am so exhausted. I came home after only 2 days in post op. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the pain that was so severe. I guess I am just a wuss, but it was horrible. The Polmerado nurses were angels and need a big reward for putting up with me. Now I have it more under control. Biggest question is, how do you eat and drink all the time when you have no appetite and no space to put anything? Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all support and prayers pre op. (Surgery went well, but I had a lot of adhesions and they had to make 9 cuts.) I will write more when I am feeling better and stronger.

Love to you all,

Jessica

P.S. (Please don't let this discourage any of you pre op patients. It's worth it, and I would do it over again in a minute)

Congratulations Jessica!!! At this point in your journey you really just need to focus on the water...then the protein. Water is more important that first week...you do not want to get dehydrated!! Good luck and let us know more when you are feeling better.

Jess,

Let me assure you that at this stage, every single day gets a little bit better. Just relax and take care of yourself---drink your liquids, take your pain meds and sleep...

Sip all the time, rest, walk, sip, sip, sip. Get that protein drink down as best you can. This is hell week - do the best you can do to stay hydrated and walk as much as you can. It will get better each day- and take those pain meds - they will help you walk and get around.

Welcome to the bench Jessica. It is ruff the first couple of weeks. As time passes you will develop a pattern that will work for you. Trust me no one ever gets in all their water and protein their first couple of weeks out. It takes times. Be sure to keep your vitamins and water in you.

Yeah don't let anyone fool ya. Its painfully no surgery is a cake walk. Take you're meds and as others have said don't worry so much yet about what you are eating. Just drinks you're fluids and try and get down some protein(liquid) if you can.

Its really tough in the begining. But, the more you're move around and work through the pain the quicker you're body will bounce back and recover.

My doc had me start mine the day home from surgery - it took awhile to get it down - but it counts as a liquid and of course it provides the protein too - I mix mine with cold water because I like a light taste. I personally use a brand called Pro Complex because it is tasty (chocolate), has lots pf protein, mixes well with water and doesnt have that thick milk shaky consistency others have - but you might want to get some samplers to try a few out. Do a search on here and you will find all kinds of advice on which types are good - bottom line is that a daily protein shake is a great way to get in that essential protein (especially in your first few months).

Good luck.
