Default Diet Soda

I have a friend who is a year out and i don't see her that much but the other night we had dinner( well she had dinner) and with her dinner she ordered a diet soda. When i asked she said she limited it to one a day and the rest of the day she had water or crystal lite. Does anyone else do this.

I usually dont order pop when I go out to eat, it's usually water or iced tea. I only do that if I know the wait for our meal is going to be long or I'm with friends and we will be talking after our meal. We arent supposed to be drinking with our meals so if Im by myself I dont order anything to drink. I have had pop but it causes me to burp so much so I dont usually drink it.

I know there are people that drink soda, but my guidelines said no soda. Not only does it cause gasiness, but I think they're worried about it stretching the anastamosis. Just remember, when in doubt, follow YOUR surgeon's guidelines.

I drink one every now and then, but I really don't miss or want one but once every blue moon.. when I have one I always pour it in a glass and let it sit and de-fizz before I drink it... I can't remember when the last time I had a real coke was though.. sometime in the 1990's I stick with diet coke and coke zero - it's really all in what your surgeon tells you

Also, I'm not one to point fingers (much lol) she really shouldn't be drinking with meals... pouch rules say to wait an hour (which is my surgeons guidelines, everyone elses may be different) after eating before you drink.. ignoring that particular rule is how people that I know that are more than a year out that have put on weight

It's totally a personal choice. I don't drink carbonation because frankly I am afraid of it! I have sipped my hubby's a couple of times...it didn't hurt or anything, but it tasted like poo poo.

Each surgeon to their own. Mine says no drinking 30 min. before or 1 hr. after a meal. I follow those rules and don't order drinks with meals anymore. I haven't had soda either though, cept a few sips of hubbies same as Cindy. I didn't much care for it either, so it wasn't hard to stay away.

The key to this is knowing what YOU are going to do in those situations and NOT deviating from the GOOD choices you know you should make. We all slip up, such is human nature... Making bad choices daily though, gets us back on that slippery slope that led to obesity in the first place. You can't FIX your friend, but you can learn by example and NOT follow her lead if you don't agree with her actions. YOU have the control and the power to change your life now...DO IT!! Your the only one who can. Good Luck.

I always preach balance. I have had very few sips of pop since surgery. Honestly I loved pop before and really missed it early out, but when I finally had it, it wasn't worth having.

I think with anything, its about moderation and balance for life.

A little pop won't hurt you, a little.......no big deal!

When I go out to eat, I always order water and never drink it. I feel like I should have something in front of me, and if not the waitress makes faces if I say, nothing, so I have the water sit there...usually the daughter or husband ends up drinking it!

Opinions vary on this subject. I've had a few sips a few times, and like Cindy, I think it tastes like garbage. And now, by my way of thinking, most of what I put in my body should be to nourish it, as that's so important especially post op. SO i'm not going to waste pouch space on something that's not going to give me health, energy, or help my hair grow back in.... usually. LOL

My surgeon preaches no carbonated drinks - ever. So far I have abstained. Frankly, I am afraid to try one because prior to my WLS the only liquid I ever drank was Diet Barq Rootbeer. I sure don't want to get on that kick again.
