I can tell you from experience.. caffeine headaches do go away eventually, when your body adjusts to not having it.. I found this "blurb" on a caffeine website:

Regular caffeine consumption reduces sensitivity to caffeine. When caffeine intake is reduced, the body becomes oversensitive to adenosine. In response to this oversensitiveness, blood pressure drops dramatically, causing an excess of blood in the head (though not necessarily on the brain), leading to a headache.

This headache, well known among coffee drinkers, usually lasts from one to five days, and can be alleviated with analgesics such as aspirin. It is also alleviated with caffeine intake (in fact several analgesics contain caffeine dosages).

Often, people who are reducing caffeine intake report being irritable, unable to work, nervous, restless, and feeling sleepy, as well as having a headache. In extreme cases, nausea and vomiting has also been reported.

I am a HUGE coffee drinker..go in spurts, so I am very familiar with these headaches... every once in a while, when I think I am getting too much caffeine.. I stop.. Good Luck!

I drink soda once in a blue moon. However, I never drank coffee before I had WLS - now I drink it every day. I am now a certified java junkie.

I told you I was a bad example.

Don't consider it as cheating or as doing something naughty. You'll end up sabatoging yourself. If you want a soda, damn it drink one.

I personally don't go with the whole "you gain more weight by drinking diet sodas" theory. They say that because people justify having excess calories that they aren't getting by going the diet route. I drink diet soda, and I still only average 800-1000 calories a day (don't look at me like that Bridget).

I don't eat sweets, or fatty foods, and I don't crave sugar because I'm drinking and artificial sweetener. I know my limits, and I don't make excuses for my choices.

My Dr convinced me that b/c of the bypass you absorb less calcium, so you need calcium pills 2X a day . . . than he says, now if you add soda to that - your bones just won't get the calcium b/c the phosphurus (?) acid makes the calcium leach from your bones. . .. yeah, he's a scary doctor . .. but he broke my habit . . . NO SODAS FOR ME!!

My surgeon and my nutritionist told me not to drink carbonated beverages so I don't. No questions asked. Whether the carbonation stretches your pouch or stoma or whatever, I don't care. I paid my surgeon a LOT of money and I am following what he is telling me to do as closely as possible. Why shouldn't I?

I have had this happen too. Why is it that people try to push food on us and look at us strange if we don't order something to drink. I have started ordering water and just letting it sit too.

I used to drink Diet Cherry Coke, atleast one a day and I stopped the day before my surgery and I have not had ONE HEADACHE since my surgery, not even one. I am so amazed really because I used to get headaches all the time when I drank the Coke but now nothing.

I recently found Minute Maid Cherry Limeade Light in a 12 pack which is really yummy like at Sonic. I don't add cherry juice to it but do add ice cubes and blend for a yummy icee.
