I loved soda before wls...I can have a sip if I am dying of thirst but it feels like it blows me up with gas.Yuck...I think in almost two years since surgery I have had a total of six sips..all disapointing.

I'll be honest - in the past week or so, I've had one a day. The glass is mostly ice, but I really missed my old friend, Diet Pepsi. I don't drink the whole thing, mostly a few sips.....but, now I don't feel so cheated.

I do it. I have "pop" (East Coast people are aoo cute!) everyday. For me, because the amount I drink and the amounts I consume i feel it belongs into the catagory of "self sabotage". My surgeons PA always says, no all people who drink sode will regain weight, but all people that have regained weight, drink soda.
I tell the peeps in my group to do as I say and not as I do, I dont think its a good habit, as Robin said its not nourinshing my body at all. I had this surgery for wellness, and this is what I do to myself.. again, falling into the sabotage routine.
If you havent started, I dont suggest you do. There are so many better choices out there, its hard to give up a bad habit, I dont think you should start one
You will find in your WLS journey that you will hear people say, "I was told or I heard, you could never eat/drink that________." You can eat and drink anythingf and everything in moderation. Right now, since you have had a rebirthday, you get a new start, its best to let old habits die hard.

SO Im the bad one who drinks 1 diet soda a day,but I do stir all the fizzys out before I drink it. I have had no problems and Im only 3 months out. I just couldnt handle it another day w/o. But I did wait until after my 3 month to try a quarter of a soda and I slowly moved up to the hole soda. Sorry, Im bad.-

I am also guilty of drinking soda on occasion. I love tea but it gets old after awhile and i have to have an occasional soda. My doctor said that it was ok once in a while but ONLY if i freeze it first and remove all of the carbonation. Freezing it takes it away. I leave it in until it is almost completely frozen. If you put it in a bottle...slowly undo the top and let all the carbonation out. If you put it in a glass...it has to be completely frozen and then unthawed. I don't do it often....and flat soda isn't the greatest...but it is better than tea all the time. Water makes me sick. I just can't drink plain water. It comes back up almost as soon as it goes down. Crystal light STILL makes my stomach hurt and ache something fierce. Doc doesn't know why other than citrus....But...i'm guilty too of the soda.

I drink soda every once in awhile. Not diet soda - that's nasty. Real soda. It's like heaven in a glass.
This and some other bad habits I indulge in every once in awhile are most likely why I haven't reached my goal yet. SO I wouldn't recommend anyone start acting like me anytime soon.
My therapist and I have a plan for me - from reading most of these posts it appears I had this surgery for different reasons then most of you - and I'm okay with my choices.
However, I strongly encourage everyone to follow their surgeon's guidelines.

I drink one pop almost every day - diet only!!! Plus, I let it go flat almost before drinking it, either with ice or just letting it sit. But, I never ever touch sugar in any form - unless it's in something naturally or part of an ingredient less than 6 grams. I guess my thought on this is that I'll never be perfect - and doubt anyone really is 100%. We all probably have that little thing that we fall back on. I know someone that eats a very very small amount of chocolate every day. But they exercise, follow all the other restrictions, and continue to lose. My doctor is aware of my pop intake - and just says not to overdo or make that my only form of fluid. Make your own choice, but make sure you discuss with your doctor!!!
