5 weeks out, not feeling full... normal?
I'll be 5 weeks out from surgery tomorrow. So far, recovery has been a complete breeze-- I threw up twice around week 3 (I think from overeating/underchewing/eating too fast), but since then I've felt great. I AM finding myself able to eat more food now, though, and I haven't felt "full" in at least a week-- I'm not sure if it's because I'm just not pushing it to that point, or might something be wrong?
Here's an average day's food intake for me:
8:00 AM: 1 scrambled egg w/ cheese OR 1/3 C. egg salad (w/ LF mayo)
9:30 AM: 1 LF Babybel cheese piece (you know, the little wax-covered ones)
11:00 AM: 1/2 C. "mexican mush" (FF refried beans w/ 2 Tbsp taco meat w/ a little LF cheese and taco sauce, all mixed together)
1:00 PM: 1 stick LF string cheese
3:00 PM: Profect vial, sometimes another piece of LF cheese
5:00 PM: "dinner"-- last night it was 1/2 C leftover mesquite chicken & black beans from Chili's
7:00 PM: SF pudding cup & 8 oz. 1% milk
I feel like I'm eating A LOT, but I'm very mindful of making sure almost everything is protein (except the pudding). I AM surprised that I'm not feeling "full" when I eat stuff now like I used to... when I could first have eggs at week 3, half of a scrambled egg would completely fill me up; now I can finish it off with no problem. Same goes for the 1/2 C. mesquite chicken leftovers. Most of the time I'm not drinking while I'm eating, although the mesquite chicken was SPICY and I did have 3 or 4 tiny sips while I was eating it.
So, you long-timers out there... am I eating WAY too much, or does this sound OK? last week I only lost 2 lbs.; I didn't expect the weight loss to slow down so much so soon, although I suppose I could have had a sort-of plateau. I don't weight again until tomorrow morning.

measure measure measure
I too never felt full at that stage. But I measured everything and stuck to it. Don't push the envelope (pouch) Just measure. And...run your stuff through fitday or sparkpeople to see what your taking it. PROTIEN is good. Protein is your friend. and yes after waiting your hour water water water. Let your body know your in healthy mode.

Any idea how much protein you are taking in per day? Consuming any protein shakes as a supplement? They say adequate protein is essential to a healthy recovery and proper weight loss.

It sounds appropriate to me. I still don't get the hungry or full feeling (well full sometimes, but thats from fluids..not food) Well saying that, I have felt the full feeling from food, but very few and far between and only with something heavier...like stew.
Enter your stuff into fitday.com and see what kind of protein levels you are getting. To me, if you get in good foods...its what counts.
What is your fluid intake like?
You are doing great!

I don't do fitday, but I have a spreadsheet at home that I keep track of everything. I average between 60-80g protein per day. The only protein supplement I do is the Profect vials (actually mine are New Whey, but same thing), 25g/vial... Milk and I are not yet the good friends we were before surgery; I have a glass once or twice a week to see if it's gotten any better, but it tends to make me gassy and send me to the toilet.
I'm getting in about 1 1/2 to 2 liters of water a day, so I think I'm OK on fluid intake.
I just feel like I'm eating TOO MUCH, although when I look at it on paper and compare it to a "normal person" intake, it looks silly... I guess I just feel like I'm eating way more than 3 times a day-- rationally I think what I'm eating is all "good" stuff, but I'm so paranoid about screwing this up, too...

Not Full
Hi all,
I am now posting in the POST OP section!!!! You and I are have been out about the same time.I am almost 8 weeks out so I will share a little of my experience and food history with you. I personally have never felt full. I had my surgery on November 20th and not once have I felt the full feeling. I have to measure out ALL of my food. I eat my half cup and then stop. I am not hungry afterword's but I feel I need to be careful because I can probably over eat if I don't watch it.
I struggle to eat 6 times a day because I do not feel hungry. I do drink allot but I don't think I am getting enough food. I look at your food day (not that it is bad) and feel like I can not eat that much. Just so you can compare here is my day. Well I try to make it my day everyday.
Breakfast Oatmeal or cream of wheat plain no splenda anymore. Heard artificial sweeteners can help crave additional sweets so I quit.
Snack Myoplex Carb Sense ready to drink 11oz shake. ( I love the Chocolate Fudge kind)
Lunch A half of a 6 inch sandwich or some kind of salad.
Snack Protein shake again
Dinner half cup of fish or chicken. ( I like to buy the rotisserie chickens at the grocery store and eat off of that for a few days) or more salad or another sandwich.
If I am hungry after dinner I have a yogurt Dannon fit and lite Only 5 grams of sugar in it or another protein shake.
I eat about 1200 calories a day. No more than 30 grams of carbs a day combine meals. Any meal I eat has less than 14 grams of sugar.
I have lost 56 pounds so far. I started at 289 pds and I am now 233pds. I have 93pds to go. To get there my exercise physiologist says I need to trick my metabolism by doing a different work out per day. What kinds of exercises are you doing? An example of my day is
Mon- Power walk for 30 min
Tues- Elliptical hill setting 25 minutes
Wed- reg walk 45 min
Thursday- off
Friday- Elliptical my choice 25 min
Sat- Power walk 30 min
Sun-Off
Its hard to stick to the schedule but it has worked. I hope this helped. I just wanted you to be able to look at your day and food and compare it to someone else who is about where you are. That's what I did! Good luck to you

I'm not getting in nearly as much exercise as I should-- I'm getting in only 2 or 3 dedicated walks per week (that is, walking for its own sake for about 30 minutes or more-- not time spent shopping, walking back and forth to work, etc.). Part of the problem is that it's dark by the time I get home on most nights... but of course that's an excuse!
I should really start taking walks around the block during lunchtime at work... perhaps I'll start that tomorrow.
I DO feel a lot better though-- before surgery, there's no way I could have taken even a 10 minute walk without my back screaming in pain; now I can go for a good 25-30 minutes without having to stop and stretch my back. A few years ago, I was able to lose about 80 lbs., and there was some exercise stuff that I REALLY enjoyed and am looking forward to doing once the weather breaks, like bicycling and canoeing. Unfortunately though, the winter months really aren't conducive to either...

Week 6 was my first NO WEIGHT LOSS week - so don't freak out - as i did!! I wasn't expecting a plateau so early on and I thought I was broken .. . or my surgery didn't work - or that was all my body was destined to lose. All not true. Just follow the program - the docs know what they are doing. If I have a FULL feeling - I feel bad . .. I try NEVER to get to FULL. At 9 months out - I'm still the same way. You don't sound like you are eating too much . . . and remember food is fuel - without fuel, your body doesn't work well, and you won't be able to lose. When I had my ulcer, I didn't eat well for a week (before I was diagnosed) I was only taking in about 500c a day (painfully) and I didn't lose. MY BODY WOULDN'T LET ME! So, get in your protein and water, hang in there and keeping losing!!
