Smile What a kick!

This is a small part of an article from spotlight news that I copied. I hope you enjoy! I found it enjoyable and you can bet I will be using some of these comebacks!

FIND YOUR VOICE IN THE NEW YEAR
Ever walk away from a conversation that made you really mad? And, worse, you thought of just the right things to say two hours later?

In the course of daily life, people make comments, offer suggestions, or are just downright rude when it comes to issues of food, body size and appearance. And, those commenting always have “your best interests at heart.” You know when a zinger is coming. It usually begins with “Now, I’m only thinking about you….but don’t you think…..?” Or, “I don’t want you to take this the wrong way, but……,” or even worse, “I’m just telling you this for your own good…..” Ah, don’t you wish you could eliminate those hurtful remarks that are “for your own good?” You probably can’t stop them, but you can protect yourself.

Make a list of the kinds of things people say to you that really set you off. Then, come up with a set of your answers to the most frequently asked, annoying questions (FAAQS). You can use humor. You can be sarcastic. Or, as you’ll see below, you can simply ask the person why they’re asking. Be prepared. Rehearse your answers. In other words, stop being a target for everyone who wants to tell you how to live your life.

Here are some suggestions:

“How much weight have you lost?”
Possible replies:
“Why do you ask?”
“That’s between me and my doctor.”
“I’m not focusing on that and would hate to see you worry about it.”

“Isn’t having WLS taking the “easy way out?” <---- all over this one
Possible replies:
“Why do you ask?”
“What is the value of doing something the ‘hard way’?”
“Yeah, major surgery is always the easy way.”

“Should you be eating that?”
Possible replies:
“Why do you ask?”
“I am allowed to eat anything I choose.”
“Eating what?”

“Are you going to gain all your weight back?”
Possible reply:
“Why do you ask?”
“Probably. Want to go to the all-you-can-eat-buffet with me tonight?”

That can also go for us who have not had the surgery yet. I get sick & tired of my mother-in-law saying things like that...but only because she loves me WHATEVER! She saw me when I was thinner and just wants me back that way

Thanks for that because I'm going to see some old friends in a week or so and I know I'm going to get that. You know I'm so tired of people saying should you eat that. I'm sorry you know what if I eat it and get fat again its my choice not yours. My way of dealing with them now is saying "Yes I can eat that because I run 2 miles 3 times a week. Want to join me tomorrow because I noticed you had some to" LOL I told a girl that the other day and she looked at me so funny. I just loved it.

BRIDGET
I WANT TO ADD A NOTE JUST FOR YOU. I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS YOU POST FOR US AND FOR ALWAYS BEING THERE FOR ME. YOU ARE THE BEST FRIEND A GIRL COULD ASK FOR. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. WHEN ANYONE EVER SAYS ANYTHING BAD OR MEAN TO YOU JUST THINK ABOUT ALL OF US AND HOW MUCH WE LOVE YOU. YOU REALLY ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON.

Exclamation

I have been asked all of those questions and I have six new moms who watch everything I put in my mouth and take note of how much I wasn’t able to eat! If I can not or do not feel like eating they give me a huge lecture on that I need to eat or if I eat what I am supposed to eat they warn me about over doing it! I thought it was just me! I know they are just concerned but Aaahhhhh! Any way thanks for the great responses!
