My pouch is also 1 oz. I don't want to comment about your friends' surgeries because I'm no surgeon but coming out of the procedure with a 4 oz. pouch sounded like a setup for hard weight loss or even failure. At the same time, your friends needed to have wanted this very much that they stayed committed to the mental aspect of the process so that they had a successful and staying progression of weight loss. It really is a call for a mental change.
Were they in a support group? Did their hospital program include meeting certain requirements? It's important to stay mentally motivated by any means. I used to complain that I felt TIED to the hospital before I had my surgery but the lectures, workshops and behavior series I was requried to do was such a strength for me in this. I had to do so much BEFORE my procedure at New England Medical that alot of my habits were falling into place before I even when in for surgery.
I hope things get better for them. You just keep doing what YOU are doing because it sounds like you are doing the right things. 1 oz is small but in time it will stretch but by then, our habits will be rock solid and we won't have to worry about being one of those people that didn't get the most out of the tool.
