I had my surgery late Nov and my doc said he made my pouch a 4 oz pouch. He said he has found that if you make it just a little bit larger you don't have all the trouble throwing up and stuff like that. He said that was just his preference.I guess every surgeon is different.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was just curious. Also, what is the cottage cheese test? I don't guess i have heard about that one. I haven't eaten it in awhile. I used to love it with potato chips but i tried just eating cottage cheese after my surgery and it made me sick. I bought some today though to try it again. I am personally still battling with my eating habits. Getting better though. Losing weight again! Always hitting plateaus. Does anyone else use ketone sticks to measure amounts of ketosis?

The Cottage Cheese test done to test the size of the pouch...see this link for a previous discussion on it
Cottage Cheese Test
I haven't tried it as I can't get down the cottage cheese!
Also this other post that talks a lot about the opening:
If anastamosis is too large. What can be done?
Have you looked under nutrition, recipes? Beth (Milady) has a great recipe for cottage cheese pancakes that I tried last night, and they are awesome. They sounded awful, but I trust Beth so I thought I would try them....oh so good.

I you search the internet for "wendys chili recipe" it is out there and you can make it at home as you are not lucky enough to have one near you.

I have no idea what my pouch size is either. I know that I tolerate 1 cup of solid food. It's different if it's things like soup, chili, etc. Then its usually about 1 1/2 cups. I'll have to ask my surgeon when I have my appointment next month how big he initially makes it. I know they usually tell us its about the size of your thumb. I would guess that is about 2 oz.
The reason your one friend who had the surgery 6 months ago is able to eat so much is that she has probably stretched out her pouch by eating poorly. Before 5 years ago they made the pouch different. It included more of the left side of your original stomch, which was the wall that had more stretching ability. Since then they have taken more of an up and down cut so that your pouch is made out of the right wall of your original stomach and none of your left side. This helps eliminate some of the stretchability of your new pouch. Now that doesn't mean you can just eat poorly. You can still gain weight by doing the things LisaM mentioned and you still can stretch out the anastomosis, which is the connection between your pouch and your intestines. This will cause you to not feel full anymore because the food basicly goes right from your pouch into your intestines. Also, because your new pouch is made out of muscle, it does grow, which is the reason those of us who are like a year out can eat more.

I don't want to know how big my pouch is! If I knew, then I would try to push it. Right now, I'm still on pureed foods and I eat 2 oz. meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and three 1 oz. snacks. Depending on what I eat, sometimes that 2 oz. makes me feel really full. Of course, soup just runs right through the pouch so I'm trying to avoid that. Really, why would you want to know how big your pouch is? If you eat until you feel satisfied, then why push it by knowing exactly how much more you could put in there?

some of us dont get that full feeling from food
for some reason i get it with liquid, but not food, so knowing how big it is so i can measure the food is a good idea, everyone is so different, so sometimes we like to know what others dont want to know.
