Default I joined Gold's Gym today!

Yes, I took the plunge, and am committed to a year contract with Gold's Gym! I meet with the trainer tomorrow at noon. I'm quite excited about this! I'm finally feeling good again and ready to start working on toning and firming up the flab! I've dropped 70 pounds since summer....and 41 of those has just been since my surgeries. I haven't been able to exercise due to the back to back surgeries and then the whole pneumonia/hypoxemia thing. (yuck!)
My neighbor belongs to the gym also. Her and I are going to the aquasize class 3 nights a week starting this week. The gym is awesome! They've only been open a couple months, so everything in there is brand spankin' new!

Wow, very cool! I did Curves at first, but eventually joined a Fitness Center......that's what really helped me get to my goal weight. I am so glad you are finally feeling well enough to do it.

Default Make sure to give your trainer all the info they need

One thing I'm finding out, as I introduce new people to the fitness center every day--give your trainer full disclosure. Tell him/her about any other muscular issues you have, and that you had abdominal surgery and when you had it. Your choice on whether you tell him it was GBS. Your trainer needs to know those muscles have been traumatized, and that you need to build your core strength slowly to accommodate what you've gone through.

Way to go...I have joined the YWCA for the aquasize....at first it was tough on the incision...all the jumping about. BUT NOW..it is terrific. I am enjoying my new found movement and I know you will too. Congratulations on your next step. What a way to start 2007.

Congratulations and take it easy Elaine!! We don't want you to injure yourself by going gung ho or anything. I know from experience when you first start seriously working out it's easy to over do.

Bonnie: How long did you wait to go to water aerobics? I'm currently going a few times a week and will want to start back as soon as possible. My surgeon said to wait at least 2 weeks or until the incisions are completely closed (duh, like I'd want to get in a pool with open wounds!). Just wondering how far out you were when you went in and still felt it was rough on your incision.

Hey there, I joined aquasize at one month out. By then the incision had healed enough that it was closed over. The jumping around was tough...I had to have one hand to hold my belly when doing jumping jacks. And the same with running on the spot. Now I am doing it without any troubles. Keep in mind that I had an open RNY and therefore was gifted with 48 staples and two extra holes on either side of the incision. Keep us posted and good luck with your upcoming surgery. We are waiting for you to join us on the loser's bench. BON

I had a little 5 inch incision w/o staples or holes. Oy - sounds rough! But I was told to wait at least 3 weeks for swimming and it took a LONG time till I could actually swim - more like two months. It just ripped me to do a crawl stroke - OUCH! So do be careful!
