Default What I ate today-- OK or bad?

Okay, I'm 2 1/2 weeks out, supposed to be on soft/pureed foods (incl. eggs any way, cottage cheese, refried beans, etc.) for the remainder of this week, then next week I can do canned meats (i.e., tuna) without pureeing.

I have to admit, the thought of pureeing meat thoroughly grosses me out, and I haven't been doing it... I had canned salmon a couple of times, mashed the heck out of it with a fork and mixed it up with light mayo or cream cheese, it went down OK. But that was the extent of my "pureeing;" I ate what I could (mainly cottage cheese and soups) to avoid the pureeing thing.

Then last Friday, I had a bite of meatloaf for dinner at the in-laws'... I don't know whether it was a good or bad thing, but it went down GREAT, and it put a bad idea in my head: "Maybe ground meat, not necessarily pureed, is OK, as long as I chew and chew and CHEW really well."

So here's what I had today to eat... am I totally off the mark or do you think it's OK?

BREAKFAST: about 1/2 of a scrambled egg w/ cheese, 1/2 oz. piece of scrapple
SNACK: Liquid protein vial (25g)
LUNCH: 1 stick of LF string cheese
SNACK: Liquid protein vial (25g)
DINNER: 2 to 3 Tbsp. taco meat, mixed w/ LF shredded cheese & 1 tsp LF sour cream
DESSERT: 1 container SF jello

After barely being able to eat anything last week, I feel like I ate a lot today, but looking at it now, it doesn't seem like much... and honestly, I only got a slight "full" sensation at these amounts (which I'm trying to pay close attention to and stop eating immediately!)

Also, fats don't seem to be making me sick at all... a few times over the past week, I know I've had regular-fat stuff (soup at a restaurant, cheese on my egg, etc.), and it hasn't made me sick.

I guess I'm just nervous because it seems way too easy to eat stuff right now. I'm finding it very tempting to try new things just to see if I CAN tolerate them, and that makes me very worried. But on the other hand, I'm keeping 99% strictly to protein stuff, so does that make it OK?

i use www.fitday.com to track everything, if you are not using fitday, i would suggest you sign up, it is free and then you will know the calories/protein, etc that you are taking in.

i use it everyday to plan my meals and then i can see exactly what i am taking in and where i need to adjust my intake

take care

I tried fitday and found it to be rather cumbersome. I actually have an Excel spreadsheet that I did up to track my calories and protein intake... unfortunately I only have it on one of our two home computers, and it's NOT on the one I usually use. (Hubby and I rearranged some stuff right before my surgery; we now have his and hers computers, and mine has everything I need BUT Excel. Plan on fixing that this weekend though.)

It seems like you are doing pretty good. I didn't have a problem with any meats or cheeses. For me I couldn't tolerate any sort of bread (I still can't), milk (couldn't do until 7mos), and sugar (unfortunately now it's not a problem for me). Just keep the amounts small, chew really well and follow your doctors instructions and you should be fine.

After two weeks, we were allowed to eat anything except raw fruits and veggies and red meat. As long as the food is pureed in your mouth, it is the same thing as the blender. Just remember to chew well as when that first thing gets stuck, you will remember it!!! Take it slow and graduate. I made ground chicken meatloaf early out and it was fine. I also used it in a "lasagna" type thing with ricotta, parm, marinara. Go slow and you will be great.
