Default First day on pureed

Okay, today was my 2 week anniversary of my surgery and my first day away from only having liquids and protein shakes. Let me tell you, it was great! I'm hoping I did everything like I was supposed to. I was told to eat every two and a half to three hours and I have to eat breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. For the meals, I'm supposed to eat 2 oz. of food and for snacks, 1 oz., and if I don't have at least 60 g protein from that then I'm supposed to supplement with a protein shake. I was in a hurry this morning to get to my MIL's for Christmas and we slept late, so I had 1 oz. cottage cheese around 11:00, 2 oz. of ricotta cheese with some marinara and a little ff mozzerella at 1:30, 1 oz. cottage cheese at 4:00, 2 oz. tuna pureed with ff mayo and a little ff italian dressing at 7:30, and 2 oz. ham pureed with ff mayo at 10:00. I am right at 45 g protein on the day by my calculations so I'm drinking a 15 g Atkins Advantage shake and will eat probably an ounce of yogurt for my evening snack. Because I got a late start and was three and a half hours between two of my little meals, it is going to be a late night because I want to be up at least and hour or two after that last snack. Luckily, I have tomorrow off. Wednesday is going to be interesting with this eating agenda, but I will be starting before 8:30 so it will be a lot easier to get in! I'm going to have to be very creative to get everything in at work, though, because I can be pretty busy. I used to take a few little things to eat to try to eat throughout the day and would always end up eating everything at my lunch break. Luckily, my boss is pretty cool with this whole thing and I don't think eating is going to be a problem, I just have to remember to time it so I can actually have something to eat when I'm on my lunch break! If anything I've done today sounds wrong to anybody, please let me know! I am sending an email to my nutritionist with this menu to make sure with her it was okay, but I wanted to bounce this off of some people who have been where I am now! Thanks!

I think that sounds great. I am one of those who has to be occupied when I eat. If I am not I eat too fast and too much and get SICK! I started out with an Atkin's breakfast bar on the hour ride to work, then around 11 had a ff string cheese, for lunch, I have half the lean cuisine I didn't finish from last night, then i forgot a snack for the afternoon. I may need to run to quick check for some cottage cheese. But what you are doing sounds great. Keep up the good work. HOw are the atkins shakes? Sweet? I am gagging off of most of the protein shakes, they are all just too sweet for me.

Unfortunately, the Atkins shakes are pretty sweet. I like them way better than the protein powder, however, because they're not gritty and they don't have the awful aftertaste. I got a sample pack of protein powder from bariatriceating.com and there wasn't anything in there that I liked. I was trying to do double scoops to maximize the protein intake and just choke it down. Now that I am eating real food, even though it is pureed real food, I might try mixing one scoop with 8 oz. skim milk and see how that goes. Would be much cheaper than the Atkins shakes, plus I won't get sick of having one flavor!

I was gagging so bad on my protein drinks for the first week. I was using Isopure Cookies and Cream (they were out of Chocolate) and it was all I could do to keep it down. It makes my mouth water thinking about it. I have found my solution....

GNC has liquid protein in Punch and ORange flavors. You need 3 tbsp for 18 gr of protein. I also found Punch flavored Crystal Light and it is yummy. I mix the two of them THREE TIMES A DAY and it is like drinking kool-aid. I also use Unjury Chocolate once in a while. But the GNC liquid is wonderful. It is pretty strong by itself but mixed with crystal light, works wonders. At least I am not gagging any more.

They didn't have that liquid at the GNC store here. I went in there to get Isopure, but it is too expensive! I couldn't afford it, so I bought the GNC brand instead. They had a sample of the GNC chocolate mixed with water and it was edible, so I figured mixed with milk it would be even better. I bought a jug of chocolate and a jug of banana cream. I'm taking the banana cream back because I just can't stomach it, but the chocolate is okay! I'm just getting sick of chocolate. I need to dig in to my sample pack again and try some of those now that I am out of liquids and 23g will probably more than finish out my protein intake on most days.

I think you can order the GNC liquid online. Right now in my stores, they are having buy one get one half off.
