Ouch, I still can not eat ham. I have always had a problem with pork though. We had honey baked ham and I couldn't even take a bite. The smell just about killed me because I wanted to eat it so badly. Just be careful. Go easy on your newly healing pouch.

I have no problem with ham, just keep an eye on the fat content, some ham can be very fatty. I try to limit my fat content to < 30grams/day total. So I buy the leanest ham I can. Also, watch the sodium intact. Too much of a good thing can cause fluid retention.

Almost Killed By Ham
I had ham on Thanksgiving and it damn near killed me. I was blaming my pain on other things until I had some beans a few days later made with the leftover ham. I swear, I felt as bad as I did the day after surgery. Now it's X-mas Eve and I can smell another ham baking in the house. My grandmother puts out quite a spread, but I just don't feel like eating anything at all.

You poor thing! I don't think I'd want ham anytime soon after that experience either! I am a little further along than you were when you tried it, so perhaps it'll not cause me the problems it did you. I am going to try some tomorrow and and pray it agrees with me. Have a Merry Christmas!

I'm still on pureeds and want to eat some ham. We were brainstorming about what I could puree with it that would be good. Anyone done ham when they were on pureeds? If it were canned ham, like the deviled ham, I would do it with mayo. I don't want to do that because it is my mom's delicious ham. My sister said I should do it with some kind of fruit juice, but I think that would be too much sugar. I can't use the juice from the ham itself because mom uses a glaze that is made with brown sugar. I really want to eat this and I keep staring at it in the refrigerator, I just can't figure out how to do it. Any suggestions?

Tonya, I think blending it with water would be about the only thing. If it's made w/brown sugar, I don't think I'd even attempt it. I'm not too brave when it comes to food.....I had complications 1 week after my surgery...however, I haven't vomited once since my 2nd surgery....so I'm hoping the ham will be okay. We don't do it with brown sugar or anything, so I think I'll be okay. I'll be having a tiny bit. I had tuna w/ff mayo on whole wheat ritz crackers for lunch..the family was munching down lots of crackers and spinach dip, so I felt like I was part of the snacking...only mine was my meal! lol! Good luck to you with your meal...but don't get sick! It's not how you want to spend Christmas night! xoxoxo

Well, I went ahead and pureed it with ff mayo. My mom makes a glaze and usually scores the ham so it seeps in. This year, she didn't score it, just put it on top. I took my little bit from the middle, as far away from the outside as possible so it would have as little brown sugar as possible. I ate it, pureed with the ff mayo, about 2 hours ago now and I have had no ill effects. If you're going to dump on something, is it pretty immediate or does it take a while to set in?

Tonya, I have the same question re: dumping... I expected it to happen eithin minutes of eating something I shouldn't, but as of yet, nothing like that has happened. I HAVE had a bad case of "the trots" a couple of times, but that's always been hours after a meal, not minutes.

I dont dump automaticly-it takes awhile. I think it depends on how your body begins to metabolize or whatever so mine takes awhile. This is something I totally made up-so don't go quoting me...but no my dumping is not immediate.
