Default Meatloaf and mashed potatoes... I was SOO excited

Okay, hubby and I went to visit the in-laws tonight for dinner... up until this point I have barely been eating anything, not because anything has made me sick (it hasn't), but I haven't had any appetite and the thought of most pureed foods turns my stomach.

So MIL made meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and peas, so I figured, what the heck... I had mashed potatoes already and they went down fine, and meatloaf is sort-of already pureed, right? So I put about a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and an itty-bitty piece of meatloaf (smaller than my thumb) on my plate, and hoped for the best... (My 7 year old nephew could not stop laughing at the table because of how little food was on my plate, haha)

Oh... My... GAWD, I think that meatloaf was the most beautiful thing I have ever tasted in my life. It wouldn't have even been two forkfuls pre-op, but I stretched into probably 8 or 10 tiny bites, and it, and the mashed potatoes, went down just fine with no ill effects.

I can't tell you how excited I have been all evening, since being able to eat meatloaf and mashed potatoes at dinner tonight... I think it's been the first time in 3 1/2 weeks that I feel like I ate a "normal" meal with other people, rather than being the weird one with the protein shake or jello-- does that make any sense, or am I nuts?

It makes PERFECT sense! Even at 6 1/2 months I still feel that joy when I actually get to eat something like that period. Don't matter if I'm alone or with someone! LOL It makes me feel almost "normal" again. I think you will find that if you eat something like mashed potatoes with your meat it will go down easier. If ya eat the meat by itself, it doesn't do as well. Of so goes my experience. But I have a pissy pouch. Her name is "Bitchie" LOL Hey Van, you can name yours Witchie and we will be twinkies for sure!

I felt the same way just last Sunday I made "Duckies Chili" and invited my daughter and son-in-law over....I actually sat down with the family and ate like a normal person. It was great! Also, I made meatloaf on Monday and had that with hubby..it was great too! Then on Thursday I went to the movies with my daughter and we went to Taco Bell, I sat there and ate some of the chicken off the top of a fiesta bowl. Nice to be back in the real world! lol! It's cool because you can still have "normal" food..just a tiny bit, and you feel full...it's such a wonderful thing. I've always wanted to be able to do that...but always had to eat the whole thing and then some!

I'm less than three weeks out and even though I feel like I fill up very fast, having had chili for the first time on Wednesday (after my 2 week post-op visit) and salmon was a big deal to me.

Meatloaf sounds pretty good and it definitely can be on the moist side depending on how it's cooked. I might try that for my next meat--I'm doing one at a time so I can figure out what works for me and what doesn't.

Still not able to feel that I am getting in the required daily protein but I will get there in time.

Doesn't it feel great to be able to eat new foods. Its like learning to eat again. Its really amazing what little food it takes to satisfy us. I know someone who had VBG and she can barely eat anything. I can eat almost anything, just a taste of it all. Thats what my plans are for christmas...just a little of everything on my plate...mostly turkey of course! Congrats girl.

Chili is my staple too!
