For me, the first two weeks consisted of mostly liquids and very soft foods...
For drinking,,try flavored waters, crystal lite, sugar free popsicles are awesome..I also did very well with warm beverages like decaf coffee or decaf tea or even sugar free hot cocoa. As for eating,,,soft foods,,,mashed potatoes, pintos and cheese from Taco Bell were easy to get down,,,,soups, jello, cottage cheese....etc.
As for trying a bite of mac and cheese,,I say try a small taste and see how it sets with you,,,everyone is different...we all handle our foods differently, so it is just trial and error from here on out...Good luck

For 2 weeks out I was on full liquids...cream soups, jello, pudding, etc. I did try pinto beans at that stage, and they were fine..but I added water to them so that they'd go through the little opening easier. I am very careful about what I put in that pouch since I had a blockage 1 week after my 1st surgery. So my advice would be to take it easy..I wouldn't attempt the mac & cheese, but that's just my opinion. It seems too soon. Pasta should be avoided early on...at least that's what I've heard. The only thing I've had that's close to pasta is chicken and stars soup. It's really a crap shoot..like Barb said..what agrees with one person may not with another. Just take it easy..don't try a bunch of new things at once. 1 new food a week. Good luck! It does get better and easier. I'm not that far out, but already am able to eat a variety of good, healthy foods..in very small quantities.

Week 1 - Clear Liquids
Week 2 -4 Full Liquids
Week 4 - 6 Pureed foods
Week 7 Soft mechanical foods and then advance from there as tolerated.
I'd back off the meat too. Remember, you have been cut apart inside. You don't want to stress it too much for fear of ripping open the sutures inside and causing a leak. It takes approx 6 weeks to heal, so take care of your new baby pouch.

The lemonade and iced tea flavors of Crystal Light are delicious. I don't like the raspberry though.

You sound a lot like me. I couldn't drink anything for quite a while except water and propel. Nothing with artificial sweetner in it. Beef and chicken were always good with me. Fish took me over 4 months to be able to eat, and even a few more months to feel good eating it. Its very strange, but thats how I was. At 2 weeks out I was still on soups and puree and just thinking of starting solid foods. I didn't do any pasta, rice, bread for some time after surgery, no real value for you and since you can only get in a little bit of food at a time, keep to the good proteins if you can.

I am now almost one month out and for the past three weeks I have been on soft, pureed foods and doing well. I have eaten refried beans with avacado, soup and crackers and some meats that were very small with some gravy. The meat does go down the hardest and I have been avoiding much of that. My surgeon says to avoid the pastas and breads for now too so the mac n cheese is probably not a good idea.
Good Luck

It's so interesting how each surgeon has their own eating plans. You say you're on soft pureed foods. My plan was two weeks of liquids, and there was no differentiation between clear liquids and full liquids, but when I was on liquids I couldn't have jello or yogurt as they werent considered liquids. Now I'm on four weeks of pureed foods, which means that anything I eat is supposed to be pureed to the consistency of baby food. My next stage is soft foods. I do not yet know the differentiation between pureeds and softs, but will find out at my nut appointment on Jan. 15. My plan is slightly different than others because I did not have the straight RNY, I have a banded pouch or Fobi pouch, but the banded RNY meal plan and regular RNY meal plan at my surgeons is not that different from my understanding. Anyway, it is just interesting to me to compare how different all the eating plans are post-op!
