My dr doesn't recommend gettng pregnant after a TT - it can pretty much wreck the surgery I guess.
I had a full TT and not a panni so I can't answer that one.
That is what I'm concerned about is getting pregant. I am engaged this year and would like to start having children but am afraid. I am pre-op. Any advice?

Longer than planned. I had it done on 10/21/06 (Friday) went back to work on 11/1/06, but then I dislodge a tube and got an infection in the area so the Doc wanted me out till 11/15/06. I've been back full time since then.

It must depend on the doc because the doc that me and a friend of mine went to said it WAS OK to have a baby afterwards, just that you should wait at least a year. That was one of the first things I asked my Doc because someday I might want to have a baby (God willing).

Hi all -

I have 3.5 pounds left before I start to research PS, but though I would start here. I have 2 confirmed hernias, and have an appt in January for a physical with my gbs surgeon to start the hernia repair process going. I want my gbs surgeon to to the hernia, but I don't want him to do the PS. How does that work? Do I have to start with my PCP like I did with gbs (I have an HMO), or is the word of my surgeon enough? How do I work if to have my gbs surgeon and PS surgeon together? Any help would be super duper

Amanda - I guess if I were young enough to consider having more children and my insurance paid for a panni or a TT then I would probably go for it - if I planned to wait a few years before having babies. I had to pay for my PS and I didn't plan on having any more kids.

I have an HMO, too. I ended up having to find a plastic surgeon that would repair the hernias as well as do the abdominoplasty. That was very tough since a lot of the ps around here don't even accept insurance. The ones on my list would accept it for the hernia, but not for the abdominoplasty. Once I did that, I had to have my PCP submit for a referral to an out of network ps and pray that I would be approved. Good luck to you...I have heard of doctors working in tandem and I would have loved to have my gbs surgeon do my repair...but it wasn't meant to be in my insurance world!

Ditto what Tracie said about having our gbs surgeon do the repair at the same time. I couldn't get my insurance to pull it with him. I did however get my ps surgeon and my hernia surgeon together in the same operating room, but that was very difficult..long, long time and lots of planning. It ended up where the hernia doc was just there for politics. My PS surgeon did it all.

I had incisions going both ways and several revisions of my mesh because it was way too big for my abdominal cavity. Since my hernia ran from the sternum past the umbilical, I have a huge piece of plastic in my abdominal region that needed several revision surgeries. With each revision, my surgeon took more skin both horizontally and vertically. Hip to Hip, I was cut open twice and vertical from sternum to belly button and below, I was cut open 4 or more times...I lost track. Anyway, I would NOT recommend a Tummy tuck until weight is stablilized and one is at least a year or more out. The longer the wait the better because the results will change with time. If I could have waited longer, I would have knowing how much the skin texture changes after 16+ months. Of course, this is my personal experience and everyone is different. My breasts to this day are still changing.
