Hey gang! Here's the re-cap...Had the surgery 10/23, went back to ER 10/31 vomiting, they gave me fluids and sent me home w/o an x ray, I returned 2 hours later, then they did and x ray that time and found I had a blockage. Then my surgeon let me lay there for 5 days before doing a 2nd surgery...said sometimes these things fix themselves. Bull! He was just too busy...anyway, I told him I had back pain the day he was discharging me, he ignored it, said he'd give me a RX for Soma, didn't order and x ray, or even listen to my lungs. I ended up back in the ER 2 days later..readmitted w/no breath sounds from my left lung. I had a severe case of pneumonia. Another admission...So, that's 3 admits and 1 ER visit in 1 month...which equals $3125 in co-pays. I wrote a letter to the hospital administrator, to my surgeon, to my primary doctor, and to the insurance appeals lady. I only sent the letter out on Monday. Well, today I got home and there's a message on my machine from the patient advocate. My surgeon feels terrible and wants to get me compensation! Also, I got a letter from the hospital today and they wrote off $2000 of those copays. I am pretty happy. I've already paid the $1125..so just knowing no more bills are coming is quite the good news! I will call that pt advocate back tomorrow and see what she had to say as well. I went to see my doctor today. My chest x ray still isn't good, but it's better than when I was in the hospital! Still, I have to be on oxygen. My pulse ox was 94 on oxygen...dropped to 88 without...I go back to the doctor next week for a re-check. My date to return to work is 1/2/07. I faxed my short term disability papers today, so hopefully money will be rolling in soon! So, even though I've been through a lot, at least the people who screwed up are admitting to it and making it right. I couldn't be happier!
