Crossing your legs--be careful!
So, who knew trying to be dainty could cause such problems. I started with foot drop (toes dragging) about 2 weeks ago. It was all of a sudden. I thought it was my herniated disc acting up. I just had my neurology appt. today and found out I've given myself peroneal palsy...a fancy way of saying I crushed the nerves behind my knee by crossing my legs. He found myelin and axon degeneration (the inside and outside of the nerves are smooshed). It may take up to a year to heal. WHO KNEW!
Anyway...after losing close to 200 lbs...the doc wasn't suprised. It's a common side effect of having new bones that stick out and nerves closer to the surface now. The sciatic nerve splits off right above your tibia on the outside of your legs...and its very close to the surface.
I just wanted to share so that you might be a little more careful with those new boney little legs! The test they did today hurt really bad (needles, electic shocks, and a two pronged probe kinda like a taser gun). I would avoid this at all costs! OUCH!
I loved crossing my legs too...made me feel so lady like. Phooey.

Hmm... that's actually good to know. I've got skinny knees myself, and have noticed I'm having some foot circulation problems and foot cramps and such. I tend to cross my legs at the knees (I know, what kinda guy does that... I think it's a Brit thing)
Thanks for the warning

Wow! I've never heard of such a thing.....like you said....who knew? It's so weird that even with the weight loss/healthy living you can develop these other bizzarro problems!!! Hope you are feeling better soon.

I had a leg issue a few months ago...my leg was going numb from the knee down. I called the surgeon and he sent me to the ER in case of a blood clot. Turns out I was crossing my legs too much to. Thank God I caught it early and there wasn't any damage.

I had it
heres a thread to share with y'all when it happened to me. The same EXACT thing you described Steph. Peroneal Nueropathy is the clinical diagnosis!
Peroneal nueropathy
Every now and again I it reoccurs, but I just stop crossing and it subsides with time. It got to the point with my drop foot that I had to wear an AFO. (ankle foot othosis) It scared the beejeezus outta me!

Wow I had no idea. I use to be a really leg crosser when I was smaller... well of all the things we change and gain from this I think adding "Don't cross your legs" to the list is not that big of a deal.
All I gotta say is I better not get pregnant!! What would my response be... "No as a matter of fact I can't keep my legs crossed" ROFL

I was told to be careful about crossing the legs early out for blood clots. I catch myself crossing my legs all the time now...just another reason to not cross them too much!

The exact same thing happened to me!!!! Mine was really bad, because I kept crossing my legs long after my foot stopped working. So I was constantly falling over. And when I walked I had to concentrate on my right foot stepping. Otherwise I would fall flat on my face - which I did several times! I still have a scar on my knee. I mooned a big group of people once when I had on a short skirt...glad it was a skinny butt by then!!! LOL
It's so hard not to cross my legs. I still do it a lot.
