Default I was close to death....

Hi, everyone!
I just got out of the hospital Thursday ......went in last Saturday......rushed to St.Louis @ Barnes for emergency surgery.....
I had a abcess on my pouch where the small intestine connected......they had to redirect this and close up the previous connection.
and another one abcess hernia in the small intestine itself....which they cut out about two inched of intestine and re-connect .
Two doctors here and there said " if I didnt go to the hospital @ that time, that I faced death by the following morning...They said this wasnt nothing to mess with and that it is fatal......I was so-scared.....I'm doing ok now ,sore as heck, they striction my activities no more exercises for least 4 to six weeks.....I can't lift nothing heavier then a phone book.....thought this was bazaar but, what ever they say I will difintely do it......I'm so confused and worried more now then anything....I did as b4 everything that a person should do after GBS , I guess it goes to show that anything can happened....People ask me now do I regret it , well I can say now yes I do...with the exception of having the GBS..it was a life saving in its own way....That wasnt my problem its what Ia'm experencing now...
Thank you for listening to me...

Cams...I am sooooo sorry. Did they say how this came to be? Was it just a freak incident that can happen to anyone? My goodness girl, you have been through the ringer!! You talk it out all you need to! That is what we are here for. You might want to add what your symptoms were so that other can be aware of what to look for in the case of an abcess like that....Beings it's so deadly...it would be a good idea to know when to rush to the Dr. and when we can take our time!! Whenever you feel up to sharing that is....Take care of U!! <<HUGS>>

It seems I have started a trend in near fatal experiences connected with the surgery! How painful that sounds! I know that my bowel obstruction gave me a whole new take on the 1-10 pain scale. I topped out at about 14....after that I wasn't conscious enough to rate it.

Have they got you on huge amounts of antibiotics? Very important with abscesses, as you don't want them to go staph on you. I'm sure they will watch closely for liver abscesses as well. I'm sorry you have had such a rough time of it and hope your recovery is swift and uneventful.

Oh Cams!!!! I'm so sorry to hear what you have been going through! What a relief that you are home now and better. You listen to your surgeon and do exactly as he says and don't take any chances. It all needs to be about YOU now! Please take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing in healing and such. I am curious to know what symptoms you were having also. Please try to educate us on this as much as you feel able to.
