Struggling with drinks
I am hoping that someone has some suggestions for me. For some reason, I am just really craving a diet soda. I haven't had any pop since three months before surgery and I want to continue to keep it that way, but I am just really sick of water and the crystal lite mixes. I just think that if I slip down that slope of having a pop, I will start up a bad habit that I think I have nixed.
I have really been struggling to get enough ounces of liquids in a day, and I know that I need to get back on track. HELP!!!:
Any suggestions???

Soda is an addiction BIG TIME, I remember that I had to have my morning can of COKE to start my day. I'm really surprised though to see that you haven't weened yourself off of it by now.
But don't fret! There are a ton of drink choices: milk, Kool-aid, hot & iced tea, diet bottled drinks like snapple (remember no carbonation).
My personal fav is Bigelow French Vanilla Tea Bags, brewed, sweetened with Splenda and set in the fridge. YUM
Be creative create you own drink & don't forget to add fiber or protein when you can!

Back away from the bubbly!!! I have heard of some people who let the soda go flat in the fridge, but it still has carboation, so I stay away. Soda was never a big thing with me though, so I don't miss it...

I like popsicles and snow cones. My other favorite is iced coffee or iced latte. I can easily drink these down.
Herbal tea or hot cocoa are good warm drinks.
I did try Ocean Spray reduced calorie cranberry or crangrape, but only have this every so often...mostly when in a group setting where everyone is drinking alcohol and I don't want to look like a geek drinking Kool-Aid. It blends in very well.
I was a Coke Junkie (the pop kind) before surgery...regular and then sometimes diet. I miss it very much, but I too know that if I went there....It would not be a good choice for me. I have tried a few sips of diet coke since surgery, just to try and it doesn't make the pouch feel too good, and I felt so bad having it, that I don't want to again.

Is was going to say coffee too
I was told nothing carbonated for at least a year and that forever would be better. But we all understand those cravings!
Maybe some decaf coffee with splenda? Something non-fruity. I get tired of the crystal lite "fruitiness" and need something rich?

Coffee with vanilla ice cream protein powder or hot cocoa with the some protein powder have been a life saver for me. AND ADD DRY MILK TO EVERYTHING so it gives you an extra boost of protein! Just be careful when making warm or hot drinks with the protein powder and dry milk because heat will make it lump up and become nasty. So I usually drink instant coffee now because I can make it with tap water and stir everything in and then put in microwave to heat after it's all dissolved and smooth. It's EASY to down 16 ounces of that! It does have calories though, so beware of those and count them in your daily scheme of things. You can make it WITHOUT all the extra protein though and use Splenda or something if you dont need the protein and can drink it all day and no cals.

blueberry tea left in the fridge cold yummy
i freeze yogurt into ice cube trays and eat them as frozen yogurt treats, good when i am thirsty and need something with protein too

YUMMMMMMMM I made some coffee tonight and added chocolate protein powder, about a tsp of plain cocoa for more chocolate taste, and Sweet-n-Low and a little creamer and gosh it is sooooo good! I have never tried this before. But got to thinking that I used to like one pack of hot cocoa mix in my coffee before surgery so thougt I'd find a way to get protein in while I do it now. So.......try it! It's GOOD! OH and cant forget the Powdered Milk! I did add it too. I have a total of 32 grams of protein in my cup 16 ounce coffee. That's doing pretty dang good.

I too craved a soda so terribly, words could not express it. I was a huge soda drinker in the past. I thought I was going to go out of my mind a few months back. I know the fear of slipping down the slope (for me it was regular soda). I gave in to a diet soda. Two sips into it, I thought my pouch would explode and now I have not a single craving. So, just keep the "ouch" factor in mind. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions!
I appreciate everyone's ideas. I will steer clear of the diet pop monster. I know once I start, it will become an every day thing!!!
