I basically have not felt "great" ever since the surgery. The symptoms just seemed to get worse and worse, with less time in between bouts of pain.

The symptoms consisted of feeling really really full after like a bite of food. It began to be harder and harder to have a BM. I had an actual area just under my left rib cage that was the size of a ping pong ball, and if food got down to that part, everything would come back up. Eventually nothing (including liquids) could get past it, and all I did was watch my belly swell up like instant pregnancy, and all I could do was vomit, vomit, vomit.

I will say this--it has changed my point of reference of pain. I've had many kidney stones in the past, and always used that as my "10". Now on the bowel obstruction scale, the new 10 would have been like a 14 on the old scale. The pain is beyond belief--I am a crusty grrl about pain, and I had no idea my body could hurt like that.

Just to update a little, I had an appointment with my GB surgeon on Friday, and he is going to do a scope and look around inside tomarrow morning to see what is causing my pain.. the CT scan doesn't show any obstructions or really any hernias, but he did say that hernias can be hard to see from the ct scan if they are small, there is also the free fluid that shouldn't be there, so a sign that something is being agravated. So possible internal hernias, hec, I don't know, don't think they will know until they are in there. But I will be glad to have it taken care of. I spent 12 hrs in the emergency room on thursday night--- What a nightmare...... Anyhow, I will update you when I get home from the hospitol.. Wish me luck......... Thanx....

Audean,
I'm so sorry you are going through this pain. I hope whatever is wrong can be fixed easily and with minimal pain. It's a pisser and it's soooo serious. But I know you know that.

My thoughts are with you,
Donna

Default update

Well I'm back from the surgeons in Boston and I thought i would give you all an update. The surgeon thinks that the cause for my pain is a gallstone stuck in the bile duct. I had to have my gallbladder out last November after my surgery last august. When they removed the gallbladder it was full of stones and infected. He took some blood tests and my liver enzymes were elevated, so this was another reason for suspicion. I had more blood work done today and I'm going for an mrpc (?), not really sure what it is but it will look for the stones in my ducts. I have to wait until I come home for winter break to get this test done, but he seems to be very proactive in finding out the reason for my pain. To be honest, i still think he feels bad about telling me it wasn't gallstones when i first complained of the pain until it was too late and i was in a lot of pain and needed it out asap. I am very accurate on what is going on with my body, and I think he realizes this now. Hopefully it will work itself out, until then hopefully the pains will not be frequent and painful. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Hi Everyone, Well, I had surgery on Monday and all went well, just sore and tired have 4 holes instead of 7 this time--lol... but. the surgeon found 2 little hernias up around my GB area, and adhesions on my intestines in my lower tummy area that he snipped loose. But no hernia in my groin area.. so hopefully this will take care of the pain I was having. Thanks for all the good thoughts and good wishes.... you guys are the best.....

I am glad he is being serious about getting down to the root of your pain... Pain is NOOO fun. What will they do for the stones in the ducts? will they have to do surgery to remove them. I have high liver enzymes off and on too... take care and keep us updated........

Glad to hear he snipped off those adhesions on the intestines. That can turn into a serious complication if left untreated. Any abdominal pain that continues for several days should be checked on.
