smell and taste
I am now 10 days post op and have noticed a change in smell and taste...Yesterday I scrambled an egg (and I loved scrambled eggs before surgery) and I could not stand it,,I put cheese on it,,,and still,,couldn't stand it...today I tried cottage cheese which I hated before surgery, and it actually tasted good....My favorite of all before surgery was chocolate so I bought some chewable chocolate flavored calcium pills and I CAN NOT get myself to swallow,,the taste is disgusting ,,,My husband has told me he notices me complaining of "smells" now,,,something I never did before...I guess everything is intensified now...strange,,but I thought I'd ask if it happens to you guys too...Thanks!

I totally agree! I even noticed a change before I left the hospital. I couldn't tolerate my deoderant. I kept asking my husband what smelled so awful! It's calmed down a little, but I'm still sensitive to certain smells - wood cabinets is another one. Certain foods don't taste good anymore either. I think it happens sometimes as others have told me it's normal.

Yep. I literally had to toss a bottle of Chanel no. 5 the other day, because the smell made me nauseous...

Definitely happens. I love cottage cheese now too. It is like ice cream to me. When I want something cool and creamy, a little 2% breakstone is what I love.

I went to Target yesterday and the aroma coming from the snack bar forced me to leave the store. I've never eaten at the Target snack bar because I don't enjoy those kinds of foods, but my liquid diet (day 9) makes me crave any food that I can crunch or chew!
Before surgery, I was using a grapefruit-scented hand soap in the bathroom. I had to trash the almost full bottle because the smell became offensive after surgery. Very strange.
