Default string cheese? and other diet questions....

When can you have string cheese?? I looked in all the literature they gave me, and can't find anything on it.....also, I found some no sugar added applesauce at Walmart....am I allowed to have any of that yet? The full liquid diet they gave me is really too much. It does say to eat less if you aren't hungry..and the 1st day I was fine with it, but now, am not. Seems like I get very full pretty fast! What a pleasant feeling that is! Today I cut back on the cream soup...had broth instead....and sf jello instead of pudding...and I feel much better. I still burp a LOT... guess that's normal??? I hope it calms down eventually! I think you guys were right...the diet they gave me is too heavy for my little pouchie right now! I've combined the 1-2 day liquid and the week#1 full liquid diet to fit my needs. Taking 1 item from each seems to sit better in my stomach. I'm just not ready for full liquids yet.

I started string cheese at 2-21/2 weeks. One piece was a meal. Low fat friggio is the best and most g of protein in only 60 calories. To this day I eat a piece every night as a snack.

I was on clear liquids for a full week. That included broth, water, crystal lite and gatorade or propel. Didn't have cream soups or pudding until last week and so far everything is going down fine. I think it's best to take it slow. I haven't had string cheese yet, but I might try it.

I would have to crush up my Effexor and take it in the NSA applesauce for the first few weeks - now I don't even want to look at applesauce

Me too, Dyann!!! Every night, I have to have my cheese, and have done that since very early post op! My podmate, Dale, is a "cheese head" too!
LOL

Good to know! I look forward to the string cheese! For now, I am sticking to the liquids. Today I am doing the BariatriXEssentials meal replacements. I'm going to stick to 6 of those per day. They are packed full of vitamins and gentle on the system. No more cream soups or puddings for me until next week. I just don't feel ready for them..I thoght I was...but after a couple of days following their diet...I found out it's just too much for me.

I could do the sugar free applesauce at 2 weeks out and the string cheese at 4 weeks out. I would add a little protein powder to the applesauce so that I could get some protein in too when I ate that.

The string cheese I couldn't tolorate until about 4 months out. For some bizzare reason all cheese tasted funny to me until just recently. Sugar Free applesause was a go at 2-3 wks out, but only a little bit...I filled up on it fast. Consider your new pouch an infant, in that you have to try one new thing at a time for a day or two to see how it will take it. Don't push the poor thing into what it isn't ready for and re-learn how to eat, when to eat, and what to eat! That is the key to this part of post-op really...and that is learning how to eat from infancy all over again. Best Wishes!

Thanks so much...all of you are so sweet and so helpful. I think I'd be WAY miserable without the help of all of you. I think (know!) I over did it the first few days home...both with the food and the activity...because I felt so good! Still, I'm being more cautious now, eating less, drinking more protein/bariatric meal replacement shakes...and things are going great. I seem to be losing a pound a day...which seems like a lot...but I'm sure it'll level off eventually. I'm not complaining though! I can already see & feel a difference in my body and especially my chin (s)...lol

On week 2-3 I did sugar free applesauce and did fine with it. I mostly had cream soups (no chunks), popsicles, propel. I didn't start real soft foods until week 3 - cheese, bean dip, mashed potato, mashed green beans. It was really trial and error for me up to 8 weeks when I was eating all foods. I had more trouble getting in any volume vs. types of foods. I guess that is the point when you stomach goes from a football to an egg!

Even now in my 10th month, I am going through a phase of being really, really full all the time, and not wanting to put in too much. I need it for nutrition and to loose weight. If I don't get in enough, I don't loose! Cheese and Chili have saved my life!
