Default I'm having a hard time

I keep asking myself, why did I do this? It's been a week since surgery, and I'm hungry, I think its head hunger. I can't figure out what to put in my pouch, nothing is appealing, sf pudding nope, creamed soup eewww, sf pops are too sweet, the only thing I'm gettting down is water. I made my hubby and son eggs this mornin and I took one tiny bite, I know its too soon for that and I was bad, and it went down fine but tasted gross. I'm taking my 2 bugs bunny vit's a day and my zantac. I don't have any protien, I don't want to spend the money in case I hate it. I know I'll be ok, I'm craving cottage cheese like crazy but hubby wont let me get any, he's being very strict about the rules. AAAkkkk, I know it will get better. I'm just having a hard time at this stage and I needed to vent. Thanks for listening

Smile Oh sugar pea!

Good to hear from you, sorry to hear about your struggle. A gal just posted about this very same thing on OH, you should go read her post. This will pass sugar pea, before you know it you will be chewing on jerkey and shrimp. this part is hard, start thinking "what have I done". I was there, and Im sure many other folks felt the same. This will pass, remember one day at a time. I nkow it sounds easier that doing it, but we can all empathize with what you are going through... Crystal Light slurpees and sugar free popsicles got me through it... do you need me to bring you a box?

Be strong little roots... love your face!

Default Hard time

Jenna,
The first couple of weeks are hard. There is no getting around it. It will get better each week. As long as you are drinking your water right now you will be fine. A bite of what you are allowed here and there is all you will be able to do right now and you will be ok. I promise.

Hang in there, there is no turning back now. So... approach it with the most positive attitude that you can. You can choose to focus on how hard it is and how miserable you are, or you can decide to focus on how you are now free of the chains of food and that you are on your way to a healthy happy life. You decide

Love you
Mary

Default Almost 6 months out...

I know what you're saying about everything tasting gross. I'm almost 6 months out and still have a hard time eating. It seems that some days I can tolerate some things and others I can't. It all depends. To me, a major staple was Wendy's chili w/cheese, but now even that tastes nasty. Some days I crave something salty, and others I crave something crunchy. I can still only eat a bite or two before I feel "full" or sick, but from what I understand, that will go away. I'm not really looking forward to being able to eat more, but I know everything will be ok. Reguardless of how much I can eat, I know it will be nowhere near how much I could eat before. Have a wonderful day!

I went through the "ewww" stage also. I basically lived on yogurt (Carb Countdown) because it has 12 gm. of protein. It's taken me 6 months before I could tolerate "some" chicken. Months 2-4 were difficult for me. I could only do a couple of bites, and I got sick often. Finally my belly has calmed down and I'm able to tolerate basically anything. My husband, on the other hand, had his surgery almost 1 month ago. He hasn't been sick and is able to eat much more than I could at that stage. Sometimes I think he can eat more now than I can now. I keep saying that I want a refund on my surgery because the doc gave him a bigger pouch! LOL. Have you tried oatmeal or Cream of Wheat? I got tired of the "sweet" taste of food, too. Or some refried beans with melted cheese on it, or even some mashed potatoes?
Good luck, dear. It really does get better.

We all progress at diffierent rates. I was eating soft foods on day 6. Things will taste icky for a while. It's hard to find something appealing to eat that doesn't make you gag. Sugar free stuff is the worst! Even now, I go through days where everything is downright nasty tasting. My hubby is over 2 1/2 years out and has similar days.

Smile Jenna

Jenna,

I understand how you feel, as we all do. We all went through that "What the heck did I just do to myself" stage. It is perfectly normal. I have some protein powder that I would be more than happy to drop off so you can try if you would like. You live close to me so it isn't even a bother. If you would like you can send me a private message and I will give you my number and I would be more than happy to drop some by. Then you will know if you like it or not. But beware that in a few weeks, your taste buds will change again. As far as the egg goes, I think you can have that now as well as cottage cheese. Maybe you posted this a few days ago though and I didn't realize it. Anyway good luck to you and know that this will soon be a distant memory for you.. and you will be feeling much better soon. I know Karen had a very difficult time with the head hunger.. maybe you could give her a gingle.. I know she'd love to talk you through it.

Jenna,
Hang in there. I thought the same thing when I woke up in ICU...why did I do this???? It will pass and every day will be better. I promise. You will be able to eat more foods down the road and you will be fine. Just be sure to get enough liquids in and follow what your blue binder says. You have all of us to support you! Rest, sip, walk....you will be fine.
