Default Going below goal?

When I started this journey with gastric bypass in December my doctor and I set a goal of 150lbs for my one year which would have been on December 12th. I am 9 months out from surgery and I am 32lbs below goal and still looseing. I am 5'8" and have a BMI of 19.5 now. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad my surgery was a success but I don't want to loose anymore weight at this point. Has anyone else had to deal with this and what did you do to remedy it?

I should add that I follow my post op diet very closely except I have started adding 2-3 protein shakes each day in between meals to try to stableize my weight loss but nothing seems to be helping. I am still looseing about 2lbs a week....

I don't have these issues, but I have heard that you should stop following the rules (ie: pouch rules) eat 6 times a day, graze ect....this can also backfire and take you back to old habits, so be careful. If it were me, I would be consulting a dietician to assist. Best to you.

I would think you need to increase your healthy carbs a little instead of more protein intake. Increased protein helps you lose weight easier. It takes your body more energy to burn protein than it does carbs.

[QUOTE=SDphotogrl99]I personally would have never had it if I was under 300 pounds (being my height).QUOTE]

Holly, I am 5'3" and would have never considered this surgery when I weighed 215 or 220 lbs., but yet there are people having it that weigh that and are even taller than I am. My goal was still within reach if I had just got off my lazy butt and done something about it. I cannot even wrap my head around why drs. will do this surgery on people when they could do it the natural way. It's too much of a life-changing and body-altering surgery to go through and deal with malabsorption and malnutrition for the rest of your life. I don't mean to offend anyone, but it's just my opinion because this is serious stuff!

I had to up my carbs. You will stabilize if you up your carbs a bit. I know that a nutritionist will be good help if you continue to lose. I had to drink some extra calories to up my weight. Eventually my body decided to stabilize and actually came up in weight a bit. You are tall and probably looking very thin at your current weight. If you add a few snacks and graze a bit with say cheese and a cracker...your weight will probably come back up somewhat. Hope this helps.

I just have to chime in here. I am 5'2" and had the surgery when I weighed 215 lbs. I had lost weight and was on my way back up the scale when I decided to have the surgery. I have weighed as much as 235 in the past and I knew I was headed there or more than likely higher. I had lost significant amounts of weight the "natural" way and every time I had gained it back. I had sleep apnea which was affecting my ability to do my job since I was dead tired most of the time. Also many of my siblings have obesity related diseases that I was more than likely going to get as I got older, including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. I chose to have the surgery BEFORE I got more co-morbities or before my weight escalated to the 300s or more. No offense, but I am exceedingly glad the doctors who understand morbid obesity have decided that people like me can have the surgery before we do even more damage to our bodies by gaining even more excess weight than we already carry around.

Heather - if you haven't seen your doctor recently I suggest that you go in to see him/her so they can help you stabilize your weight. Good luck!

I bit my tongue earlier and was going to post about what had been said and I am with you Veronica on this. I am 5'2" ,started at 239 and was on every doctor supervised diet there was for years. I lost a ton of weight over and over and beat myself up at the gym for years. I went to several doctors who supported my efforts and every time I failed. I knew that wls was for me and who is to say that if one is 235, that one might not think of surgery. Easy to say that no on would even think of having the surgery at that weight...but for me I knew that I needed surgery. Regardless of the problems I have endured, I would do it all over in a heartbeat. I don't think we can judge anyone. I think we need to be supportive and non-judgemental. I knew that if I continued and didn't help myself that I would've kept on climbing in weight. I see that we all have our opinions, so I just had to throw my own experience out there. I am glad that I have this tool and thankful every day...being 100+ pounds overweight is enough...that is just my 2 cents..and my rant for the day.
