Question Leg Cramps

Hi, does anyone else get leg cramps? I realize that they are caused from a lack of nutrients, which is partially my fault since I have a hard time taking medicines. I am trying to do better on making sure that I take my multi-vitamins and calcium pills everyday, and I am eating/drinking dairy products daily (skim milk & string cheese) since I know that calcium is supposed to help fight the cramps. But the only thing that actually helps is by taking a potassium tablet.

I had asked my doctor about taking potassium before, and he acted as if I shouldn't have to worry about it.

So, I guess - Is this normal?

yeah. i hate those leg cramps. I used to get them every night early post-op though (1-5weeks). Now it seems like theyve gone away.

I found having 1/2 banana and a bit of milk each evening helped early post op!

Don't know about post-op, but I have overdeveloped calf muscles and get leg cramps every night if I don't have a banana 2-3x a week. Just like Rain said! Hope you can tolerate the sugar in a banana 'cuz they are wonderful source for potassium.

Ooooh, those were the worst! Yes, I got them in the first few weeks after my surgery, but they went away. I think bananas did the trick for me. I eat one for breakfast every morning.

I have been woken up with these evil little monsters almost every night for the last couple of months. I have added potassium to my daily regimine but I think I will try taking it at night instead of in the morning.

I have had leg cramps since I had my daughter and still have them after GBS. Two of my doctors have both said it is lack of magnesium and since I have taken that I have no longer had the cramps. So maybe that will help you also

Yep - I am with Rain...although I haven't had leg cramps since before surgery, I am working out a lot and drinking a ton of water, so it would be right that i am losing a lot of potassium, so I have 1/2 bababa every morning as partof my high protein shake concoction I make

I get them as well but whats so odd is I was told to never have milk or any dairy.. and that I would have to wait 4 months before having fruit so.. how long did you wait before having the fruit and should I just try it anyway?

Thumbs up Banana

I can't stand the taste of Bananas, so I just take 100-200mg of Potassium daily.
I'll take a pill before I eat those nasty things!!
