Wink The biggest change

Hi!
As a future loser, I am curious as to what you consider the biggest eating habit change that you feel you have overcome since your weight loss surgery? I have many many eating habits, the emotional eating, eating when I am bored, eating when I am sitting, watching t.v, you name it. =) I would love to know your biggest eating habit obstacle that you've overcome.

Thanks in advance!!

Default Head Hunger

Head hunger, so far has been my biggest problem. I think of food even when I know I am not needing it. I still walk in the kitchen and look at food, but I know I can't eat it and I won't go there. Some days it is easier than other days and I find myself thinking of food more with boredom. This is something I am working on. I try to keep myself busy with other things. If I really want food for no reason, I pull out a picture of myself pre-op and it reminds me of where I came from and the habits I had pre-op.

soda and sugar....Those are the biggest changes I've made. I gave up soda 2 weeks before surgery and obviously no sugar since. I really don't miss either of them. I eat so healthy now it is just amazing. I constantly read labels and really think about what I put into my body now. I always weigh if it will be fuel or just food. Fuel wins out every time. It's all about making the right choices, as hard as that is sometimes! Good luck to you.

Default Portion control,

I'd have to say that portion control has been my most visual change to eating. You can't eat as much as you used too. It still blows me away how little you eat and are satisfied. I caught myself this weekend putting too much on my plate and instead of finishing it, it went in the trash can.

Smile So many changes in so little time

I have to agree with some of these posts..

I don't do sugar.. I don't go there. I don't miss it either. If I am having a very difficult time with a sweet tooth I get a sugar free candy and chew on that.. But I try not to do that often as I don't need the empty calories.

I don't do soda. This was a hard one for me at first just the thought of it. However, I don't miss it. I thought I would die if someone ever took my soda away but I am really ok with it.

Reading labels.. what's up with that?? I am not a label reader.. or I wasn't shall I say. Now I read everything and decide if it goes in my mouth or not. Of course, I would have to say that even though I do eat healthy I don't completely say "no I can't have that" because I didn't do this so that I would be on a diet for the rest of my life. I do chose to eat healthy but there are times like every other Wednesday Stuart and I share a personal skinny crust pepperoni and jalapeno pizza from Round Table. It's our treat for doing good for 2 weeks. I don't think it hurts any. I mean we are still human and if we have cravings and we act on them sometimes they go away. I know that when I don't give into my cravings (like for pizza) then I just obsess over it and when I finally get it I am satisfied and move on. I know that in two weeks I can have it again.. so I don't obsess over it. I hope that makes sense.

Default Biggest Change

I would say the biggest long term change is quantity and speed. I used to eat huge portions and I ate very fast. I now even 15 months out can only eat between 1 to 1 1/2 cup max at a serving and I have to eat slowly. The other stuff... I can't eat more than 10 gms of sugar so I can't binge on that, I can't handle greasy stuff so that cuts out most junk food. And I still dump on high carbs like, white flour. I can do pasta, but not rice.

Over all the biggest though is quantity and speed.

Okay fine, I will mention the "C" words. Chocolate, cheese and cokes. There, those were my problems before surgery. Big time. Since surgery? Well, I turned lactose intolerant, so there goes the cheese. Cokes? Haven't had much trouble with those. I actually had a desire for a taste of one this weekend so I stole a teeny tiny sip of my best friend's diet pepsi. That I won't do again. TOO fizzy!! LOL. Chocolate. Ah, the love of my life before. Now? No desire, nothing. I am having problems finding a protein drink I can tolerate (the milk thing is part of it), so I tried some of the protein bars. What is up with all of them being chocolate??? They are too sweet and rich and I can't handle them! Too funny. I had that little voice in my head too, but I talked back to it and it went away. Thank goodness!!

I would say the biggest changes for me are portion control and soft drinks.
I used to drink alot of diet coke. Haven't had one since surgery and I still
haven't had a craving for it.

OHH, you name it. Diet Coke is a big one, and I still miss it. But don't ever want to go back there!! Portion control has been a huge one, I think-'that's not much it will be fine' and end up throwing 1/2 away! RESTAURANTS!! I used to go out all the time with freinds, now I have a hard time justifying the $$ wasted on uneaten food, (I'm not good with leftovers!). Had my first bite of Pizza the other day, and low and behold, YUCK!! Couldn't beleive it, had to try it again to be sure. Yep, Pizza tastes horrible to me now!! Found an even deaper undying love for dairy!! I live on milk, cottage cheese (and tomatoes), some cheese, and Carb Control Smothies!! Thank God I'm not Lactose intollerant.

the biggest changes for me are before surgery in april 2003 i used to drink diet soda all the time. Have not had any since then. I drink water coffee, ice tea or snapple or ice from costco. second, i always used to eat fast food. have not been to a mcdonalds, jack in the box, burger king, carl's jr. since april 2003, not even for a salad.
