Question Extreme Pain & Gas

I had a pretty harsh bout with stomache pains on Sunday and again today. It was so bad on Sunday that I couldn't even drive the 70 miles back home. I had to stay at family's. I took the disolvable gas-ex and drank some decaf mint tea, and stayed up for hours with this pain. It happened again today. I was driving to pick my son up from school and I about drove off the road because of the pain. It's almost paralizing. I felt better for a second or two then walked down the hall to pick him up. It hit me again and I had to stop and lean against a post and wait until it passed. I finally made it home and took a chewable gas-ex (not even sure if they work).

I layed in bed for an hour with this pain coming and going. I never was able to "pass" but the pain eventually lessened. I go back to work tomorrow and I'm affraid that if I have this pain, I won't be able to function or find a place to rest until it passes. Anyone ever had to deal with this? Any suggestions?

My mom told me she read an articale about how artaficial sweetners can cause gas. I'm only eating sugar fee stuff and only add splenda to the one cup of decaf tea i drink at night. Is this true?

I have horrible gas pains with sugar free stuff. Stinky too. I have been trying to not eat any of that stuff because it was killing me! I also want to add, I had horrible pains that I thought were gas pains and it was kidney stones.

How long after WLS does it take to form stones? Should I be worried?

Default Sugar Alcohol?

Hi, not sure if this is it or not, but it sounds like how I felt in the past (pre-op) when I ate sugar-free foods that were made with sugar alchol, like candy. Even if I ate only a serving size, I would have horrible cramps and pain in my lower stomach/intestinal area, similiar to what you're describing. You may want to check to see if what you're eating has sugar alchol - There should be a warning label stating that some people have adverse reactions to the ingredient.

Hopefully that's it and not something major!

UGGGGHHHHH, I feel your pain. I had a protein style burger from In&Out yesterday...I didn't know that raw onions give you gas. Dang, I was in soooo much pain and the Gas-X didn't touch it. I feel for ya!

Yeah it does happen from time to time. Just try and be careful when you eat and drink. A lot of air can get in then. I had a really bad day last week. I wanted to die because it hurt so bad. I had to take gas ex for the first time post op. 30 min later I was ok. Good luck....it will get better.....

I had my first one 6 months out, I think. But technically they can form any time. The first time it felt like labor...I was doing lamaze breathing. The second time, I took gas-x and had no relief and it kept getting worse, ended up in the ER, you would think I would of remembered the first time. I have to have another x-ray tomorrow to see if they are going to help it out...the severe pain comes and goes.
