Default Resetting goal weight

I've been thinking a lot about where I am headed with my weight loss (part of the problem of slow weight loss - too much time to think) and I think I'm going to change my goal weight.

Here's my story - my nutritionist and surgeon will absolutely not give me a goal. They stick to the "Most GBP patients are able to lose 2/3 of their excess weight - any more than that is due to great commitment to exercise". Yea - thanks - so whats my goal?

I have put up that 133 is my goal (I'm 5' 2") but I am very muscular already so my guess is that I can't get there without PS. So, in plain view of all my forum buddies, I am going to reset my goal to 140, hoping that the last 7 will come off during a nice tummy tuck and boob lift.

I am a bit of an overachiever, so I though just changing it without explaining it would be sort of, cheating - ya know?

So, as soon as I post this, I'll go in and change my goal. This also means that I only have 89 more pounds to lose, which has me about ready to dance on my kitchen table. I have needed to lose a 3 digit number for so long - now it is under 90? I can't even believe it.

Very happy here - feeling more realistic now.

I am 5'2" and felt great at 140. I think that is very realistic. Good for you Gina!

I thought that my 125 that Dr. C made for me was too low and that I would never make it there...well...I was wrong.

Gina,

I am 5'1", fairly solid and muscular, and am at 139. I usually wear a size 6 now.....although I am broader on top and if I bought a dress would probably buy a 10. I think for your height and build that weight sounds very reasonable. I think it better to say something you know is healthy and lower later if needed than always feel you didn't reach it, when it wasn't realistic anyhow. Keep up the good work......you ARE doing great!

Gina:
My PCP gave me a weight to shoot for at 155. She had this little slide-rule thing that she calculated that total with. But, it has to do with my body type, bone structure, height, and age.

My doc didn't give me a goal weight either. We discussed it and based mine on the weight I was at 18 years of age and feeling pretty good. It might seem on the high side, but I know I can achieve it....so for me at 5'9, 180 is my goal. When I get there, I might decide to go lower...who knows!

Hi Lisa,

I think that is a perfect weight for your height. I think goal really should be where we feel comfortable.

My doc and nutritionist never gave me a target either. They just sort of asked where I'd like to be when it was all over. Before this started I gave a number that I thought was going to be near unattainable (200 lbs.). They seemed to think that was a fair target number and said that we'd shoot for that. Now that it's only 44 lbs away I am going to shoot for 175-180. That's the "normal" weight for my height. I think if I bust my ass I'll be able to hit it. And if I'm honest I will probably change that goal again sooner or later. maybe up maybe down. We'll see. This is an ever changing process and one never knows where one will be in a week or a months time. Maybe that's just me though.

My doc also did not give me a goal weight to shoot for, but asked me what I wanted, and I said 135 which will bring me just under the top tier of normal BMI. From past experiences, however, I may also need to "settle" at 140 or 145 since I will need to have my TT and there will be a lot of skin removed, so that will hopefully bring me down to goal. Gina...I think we are two peas in a little pod
