With obesity clearly the reason we have had this procedure and the reports about what soda (including diet) has done to our societies size and health issues WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD SOMEONE DRINK THIS CRAP AFTER ALL THEY HAVE GONE THRU TO LOSE THE WEIGHT AND BE HEALTHY?????

Before WLS I could and would drink at least 2 liters of Pepsi (not diet) a day. I was an avowed junkie. I stopped about 3 weeks before surgery and to this day do not miss it.

Please think about what contributed to the original weight problem and don't set yourself up for failure this time.

I think people drink this crap just like people go back to drinking alcohol and eating sweets and carbs and stuff. I know that I drink it once in awhile because I want to...not as a daily habit, but just because I want to. Prior to surgery, I downed Diet Coke all day and now I can't believe how much of it I really drank.

I feel only human to drink a few here and there, but that is it. Now, Coffee is a different story. I drink it every day and was thrilled when Kelly said I can have it. I was shocked when she offered it to me in the hospital. I thought...ewe..icky. It took me quite awhile to get the taste or desire to want coffee again. It does me well.

I haven't tried it. Everything that was yummy and semi-sweet to me before surgery now tastes like SYRUP...it's sooo nasty! I was a puddin' holic' pre-op and thrilled that FF/SF pudding was on the post-op plan. Now, the thought of it turns my stomach! Jello even is horrible. For all the aforementioned reasons..I abstained. I take my Crystal Light and mope on the sidelines dealing with the emotional loss of my GOOD FRIEND MT. DEW.... <~Totally mellow...dramatic...lalalala

Hi my name is Jenny and I love diet coke! I don't buy it to keep in the house. I have it every once in awhile when I'm out. It's not something that's on my every day meal plan. I've been dying to have some rootbeer recently, so I may even have some diet rootbeer *sticks tongue out and goes pppphhhhhhttttt*.

I'm sorry Pam, I love you and I love your opinions. My doctor did not say it should be avoided completely, just not something I rely on as a source of fluids. There are times when I'm thirsty and ONLY ice cold water will do...or ONLY a certain flavor of crystal light will do....and very rarely ONLY diet coke will do. If it's a CL moment and I have water, my pouch gets very very angry. I assume he turns green and breathes heavy at me too. I don't do ice cream or cookies or breads or candy or chocolate....all of which I was huge into before surgery. This is my one vice.

Most of the SF popsicles I have tried are too sweet for me too!! The only ones I can tolorate are from Schwans. Weird huh? I guess splenda just makes everything too syrupy? (I really wanted the Dr. Pep. ones too!!!) Waaaaaa

I take this surgery and my commitment very seriously, and your statement came across in a way that I would expect it to for someone breaking all the rules.
Melanie,
I think my stats speak for themselves. My point, that you obviously missed, is why sabotage yourself by doing what got you to that point to begin with. Sure, I occaisionally have something that is not a "good food choice" but not daily like some of the posts here indicate people do with soda. I didn't attack anyone on a personal level but apparently you have no compunction about doing that. Sorry I seem to have struck a guilty chord with you.

Default Diet pop

Here's what I know. I asked my surgeon about diet pop/soda. He said it will do no harm, but that in his mind it's just another addiction. So, the first is statement is a medical fact, the second is a personal opinion.

For those of you who have given up pop, good onya. For those who still drink diet pop, good onya.

If we've learned one thing about this surgery, it's that everyone's different. I, for one, think all the stuff about carbonation and caffeine being harmful is hooey. But that's just me.

I am trying to learn to live a life of moderation, not continue to live one that is about all or nothing.

That's my two cents.

My tastes have changes SO much since surgery,..so I sure don't crave soda like I once did early post op. I did hoqwever start drinking it on my 4 month anniversary (in the Dominican!!) I FILLED my cup up with ice,..and let it sit for about 5 minutes to let it water down. I was fine. But then I tried it in the evening,..when it wasn't so warm,..and I thought I woudl explode!! So now,..if I do ever have a glass,..I make sure it is very watered down. I don't even care for it at all anymore!!

I was a Coke junkie before surgery. I have tried diet pop a few times after surgery (more so when I am somewhere and can't drink the water) but honestly, I don't really care for the taste and how it feels. I find that with many things now...I either don't like the taste, or its not worth eating. To each his/her own - key thing, we live with OUR choices, not that of others.
