ewwwww, I love milk. I didn't used to be such a huge fan, but now it's a real treat. As for diet soda... I didn't like the taste before the surgery. If I can't have "the real thing" I don't want a substitute. And I had heard carbonation/caffeine messed with the pouch and digestion quite a bit. For those of you that do drink soda, do you have it caffienated? I'm just curious.

I have taken a few sips of my hubby's diet soda and I think it tastes horrible now. Like I am drinking all chemicals. I can't believe I drank that stuff daily before. I have never drank enough I dont think but the bubbles didnt seem to bother me.

I have to drink one a day or else I get bad headaches. At least it's better to drink diet soda than coffee The bubbles hurt me once and then after that I was good to go.

Why is it better to drink diet soda than coffee?

That is my question also... The carbonation is not good for your pouch and I was told it could contribute to an ulcer. Just think about it, if it will cut grease from a nasty kitchen drain and is so explosive that it has to have a warning label on the container to point away from eyes due to being under pressure, then what do people think it's doing to their new tummy? I agree it used to be the best thing right up there with sex, but I have a feeling if I tried it now I would be so afraid of it I couldn't enjoy it.

I was told not to drink soda OR coffee. I know people do, and have no trouble. Doc said carbonation and caffeine are both big no nos. So I would think decaf coffee should be ok, but any sort of soda would be counter my doctor's orders.

Sorry but I have to get on my soap box here for a moment. Please save the replies because this is just my opinion and I have to say something!

With obesity clearly the reason we have had this procedure and the reports about what soda (including diet) has done to our societies size and health issues WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD SOMEONE DRINK THIS CRAP AFTER ALL THEY HAVE GONE THRU TO LOSE THE WEIGHT AND BE HEALTHY?????

Before WLS I could and would drink at least 2 liters of Pepsi (not diet) a day. I was an avowed junkie. I stopped about 3 weeks before surgery and to this day do not miss it.

Please think about what contributed to the original weight problem and don't set yourself up for failure this time.

Stir and let it go flat then enjoy. I like to put it in a pot and heat it up or make ice pops out of it.

It's no better or worse then drinking flavored waters.

I know you said save the replies, but can't resist...
Since the surgery, have you never, or are you never going to have something that isn't on the plan??? Yeah you're entitled to your opinion, however, to push guilt out when someone is having a week moment and tries to find the "safest" alternative is just wrong. I take this surgery and my commitment very seriously, and your statement came across in a way that I would expect it to for someone breaking all the rules.
