What's the best advice for..
New eating habits? I think after monday the doctor will tell me I can start eating food again, but I am pretty scared because I haven't really been taught how to do this. Luckily I am seeing the nutritionist people the same day, but still nervous and dont really know what to expect.

Everybody is different and became obese based on different foods etc. For me, carbs are the enemy. Once I get bread, I need more. So knowing that, I don't have any bread or toast of any kind. No pasta, crackers, white rice etc. I do allow low carb wraps and maybe once every other week some a couple of forkfulls of brown rice. It is working just fine for me. Some say moderation is the key, but I know I unable to do moderation with certain foods. You could give me one spoonfull of ice cream and I am fine, but give me a french fry and I am in need of more. I don't eat any desserts other than fruit. Take a good look at your old habits and before attempting moderation, really have the new habits engrained. Then if you are the type to handle moderation, by all means do so. I just know I can't and it would be a slippery slope. You will be great and it gets so much better once food is reintroduced. I have a great relationship with food now. It sustains me and I love veggies where I used to hate them. Good Luck.

That is great advice from Dyann. I think we all have to figure out our own issues, triggers, and tricks as we go. But when you hit a road block later, someone here will have advice of how they work through it. For me it is munchies. I have several things I've done to continue combatting it.
Now, to start your new eating experience, my advice is to get a meat that sounds good and can be soft......maybe eat it with mashed potatoes and gravy. You'll only be able to eat a few tiny bites.......so get some little fridge containers. I also ate a lot of soup at the beginning. Every person has different things that go down better. In general I would avoid carbs without protein, sugar, and "bad" fats. The only other advice is to eat slooooowwwwwwllllllllyyyyyyy, and chew it until it's puree in your mouth before you swallow. I used baby utensils early out to remind myself to eat slow and small. I also used the small saucers rather than a big plate.......and still do. Otherwise, we still tend to scoop like the old days! Good luck......most likely you'll do great.

Chuck, don't worry. You will figure it out. The one good thing is your pouch will be the judge of most of what you eat. It's not easy at first, but it will get better. The thing that bothers me the most and it's not a bad thing because it's protein that I want so bad, but I can't handle beef and I would kill to have a big juicy piece of grilled hamburger or ribs! All I can do is look at it now. Maybe later when I am a year or so out I can enjoy these things again, but if I can't, oh well.......I'll look good and be healthy while I'm staring miserably at what I can't have! LOL So, there are alot of trade offs here, but WORTH IT! Just do as Dyann and Marty said....PROTEIN FIRST and EAT SMALL BITES VERY SLOWLY. You will not be able to eat much of anything, so make good choices then you will not want what is bad because you will be full. I feel like a rat picking at food now and it's AMAZING how much everyone around me eats. Makes me sick to watch them!

Follow the rules especially during the honeymoon period. The honeymoon period is where you will train yourself and your body how it is gonna be. I know that if I didn't follow the rules, it wouldn't have worked. Start with cream soups, refried beans, soft foods, and foods that your nutritionist recommends. Watch for things high in sugar...example would be yogurt. I still can't eat regular yogart. I have to eat low carb or the light version(only 1/2 of the container or I will dump)
Cottage cheese with mozarella cheese with Marinara on top microwaved for 15-30 seconds was my pretend lasagna.
Protein is key and will be your staple. If I sway from protein, I feel terrible. It will be possible to eat more and make different choices when you are further out, so if you stick by the rules, you will succeed. I try to eat a variety and stick to moderation, but it is hard because I end up with the old habits. I have to kick myself and go back to basics if I have a bad day where I eat too many carbs. I do go there and eat Doritos or eat a piece of cake and I feel it is only human. I know that if I withheld from taking a few bites on special occasions, it would drive me crazy.
Everyone is different and you will decide what is best for you. I personally try to limit things in my house. If it is here, I will eat it...if I don't buy it, I won't touch it. This doesn't mean I will never eat it, but it makes it easier to control myself. Yes, I am human and yes there are days when all I do is eat carbs...but I jump on the band wagon and kick mmyself right back on track to protein because I love my thin clothes and I don't want to go back to where I came from. I will always remember that and that is what keeps me in check.
Best of luck....you will be just fine. Everyone here has such great advice.
