Starvation mode
When you consume too few calories as you are doing you body goes into starvation mode and fights to retain its weight. Ramp up your calories a bit, and your protein in healthy foods, and keep up the exercise. I too am at the same place, a plateau, I've been there before and know it will pass. Hang in and don't get depressed. And don't weigh yourself more than once a week and ideally once a month. I leave the scale at my therapists and thus can only when when I go there, once a week. Sometimes I don't even bother when I am there!

So doing the math here... at rest my body burns ROUGHLY 2500 cal a day JUST existing... that is not incuding the exercise. So I am banking 1500 a day.... a pound is worth about 3500 cals right so I havent lost a pound in 6 weeks...
Anyone have an anwer to THAT?

Your body didn't read the book. Those BMR estimates are just that..an estimate. If you want a real BMR you need to have something called a direct calorimetry performed. Based on what you have lost....136 pounds...that is a burning of 476000 calories in excess of intake. You did that in 233 days. That is on average 2043 burned in excess of intake/day. So if your BMR is roughly 2500 and you burn an additional 300/d on average (some more and some none) and consume on average 900/d. (2500 + 300=2800-900=1900) That leaves only 1900 calories towards weight loss. Seems to me you are ahead of that. The body has a way of averaging over time and that is what is happening. 6 weeks of no loss is because you were so much ahead, it needs to catch up. This was far from scientific, but you get the idea. Fluids have a great deal to play in this as well as other hormones. It isn't over. We can crunch numbers, but the bottom line is frustration is horrible and clouds our whole outlooks. I will say it again....It isn't over, you just have been so successful, your body is saying slow down. ((((HUGS))))

I feel like my body hates me, and frankly at this point I don't like it very much either.
I can't see that the inches are falling off either, so that isnt going to fly. I seriously don't know of anything that is mentally stopping me either. I am just falling into a depression at this point.

Hey Gina,
I read this yesterday and had to think about it. When I hit 6 months, I became scared...I could eat twice as much and started to really venture into the old bad foods. When I hit 1 year, I was at goal, and couldn't believe it. It thought...how did I do this because I am eating way more food. After the 6 month mark, the weight came of slower and some weeks nothing came off. It was discouraging and I thought that maybe I wouldn't make it. I would be the one who couldn't be successful. I kept thinking yeah right. Well, at 1 year, I was sitting at goal and went below goal. I thought...how long is this going to be like this. I had to start eating more carbs to gain some weight. It was scary because I didn't want to do that. I didn't want to get back into snacking and carb eating. I did it anyway and brought up my weight. After just hitting the 2 year mark, I really have to say that I still can't believe how great this tool works. I know how to go around it and cheat it, but I choose to work it most of the time. What I am really trying to say is..hang in there. You have to give your body time to go with the flow. Your skin will keep changing and so will your body size and weight, too.
Change up your eating for a few days....try to increase your calories and after 3 days, go back to strict pouch rules. This will help jump start your losing again. It always works for me....maybe it might work for you.
Hang in there and keep positive.

Protein Train
I have heard of something from another site (Gastric Bypass Family) that alot of the members there swear by to 'jumpstart' weightloss when you've hit a plateau. It is called a PROTEIN TRAIN. Basically what it is is going to liquid protein and water for 3 days. They say it really works. I don't know. Has anyone here ever done it. (I asked this question about a week ago-but noone here heard of the one talked about on the GastricBypassFamily site). I hope you get over this plateau- they can be so discouraging. I will pray for you.~tammy

Really!
I'm telling you, from one Gina to another, my trainer has changed my life. I'm really in high gear now - he totally changed my work-outs. I know you said you exercise, but what are you doing? And I agree with the calorie thing too - you have to shake your body up. I know my nutritionist told me that if you eat the same thing all the time while dieting, that can even slow you down. Your body needs a challenge, and not fewer calories, but different stuff! Eat more, work out differently, and don't let it get you down! Dyann is right, your body is saying, "Woa woman - I didn't know you were serious about this! You want me to lose MORE? I gotta think about this!"
It'll happen!

Gina,
Someone here gave me some advice that worked for me. On one or two days eat as you have been, maybe even a little more; then cut your calories down to half for 2 days. It jump-started my weight loss again.
But, also realize that you've lost 136 pounds so far! I think your body is trying to adjust to your tremendous weight loss. I know you may not want to hear this, but I stuck for two months once (even gained a little) before I took off again, and then dropped over 20 lbs in 5 weeks.

Eat more! When I am stuck I eat just a few more calories a day. Not junk but more protein or a few more carbs and drink, drink, drink. The water flushes the fat from your body. Works everytime for me.
