Had my 3 month check up yesterday. All was good except...
Doc said my good cholestorol was 28 when it should have been minimum of 29. He also said my glucose was low. He didn't seem concerned but it's got me curious. What does low glucose mean? Am I not getting enough of something I need? How do I push up my glucose? Should I even be worried? Am I now at risk for hypoglycemia or diabetes?
He seemed really happy with my physical state. I, of course, am looking for the dark cloud inside the silver lining. Am I being silly?

It is very common to become hypoglycemic post bypass because we eat so little. Diabetes occurs is when your glucose is too high for a while, though hypoglcemia does occur for diabetics too. Glucose is always lower int eh morning as you have't eaten in your sleep (well, hoeplefully not) My glucose was 63 after eating a meal! "Normal" range is 70-110...but they keep changing the numbers. The specific numbers isn't as much as a concern vs the symptoms you have. To maintain an even glucose level, you need to eat a meal every 3-4 hours that is protein rich and has good carbs (whole wheat, fiber, bran). I need to eat every 2-3 hours because my glucose gets low faster. Hypoglycemia causes headaches, dizziness, hunger, and mental fogginess. These symptoms are easily resolved with a little bit of food.
Your HDL is low...mine is at 78! My total is 135. Increasing good proteins like fish, chicken, and beans can help get the good stuff up. I take a fish oil supplement and use olive oil in my cooking.

That's good information. I only asked about diabetes because when I did a google search for "low glucose" one came up with something like 'do you have diabetes?' I don't get any of the symptoms you are mentioning, but I'm still early in the process. My hunger is still mostly still head hunger.
Fish oil ehhh? I don't do a lot of cooking that requires any sort of oil at this point, but when I do it's always olive oil. I'll have to look into the fish oil stuff. And are any particular type of beans better than other types? And when you say fish, can you also get this from shellfish? I haven't been tolerating cooked fish very well, but shrimp has gone down really nicely.

Low glucose or hypoglycemia is when your pancreas secretes to much insulin. You will have the same sypmtoms as a person that has high blood glucose. Sometimes this can be a precusor for diabetes.

All seafood contain good amounts of protein with little fat, except for salmon...which contains the good Omega 3 fats, which help boost good cholesterol.
Have you tried sashimi or carpaccio? Raw meats are much easier to digest. When you cook protein, it gets tough

I love sashimi but am hesitant to just go to the grocery store and buy raw fish. I dunno how I would store it. It's only good fresh and even fresh I have no idea how to prepare it. I go out for sashimi a couple times a month though.
I have even less idea on how I would prepare carpaccio. Or even what sort of cut of beef it would be.
