Default Freaking out a little

I crossed the 6 month post-op mark on July 30 and BOOM...overnight it seems I'm able to eat more. Honestly, one day I was picking away at food as usual and the next day I can eat WAY more. Or at least it seems to me. I'm so freaked out, I'm recording everything I eat. It seems I'm eating 1000-1300 cals, which includes my protein drink, but know I could eat more. I know I need a lot more than that to maintain, but I'm freaked out and scared. I'm within just a few pounds of my goal weight, but it seems to be really stalled (of course). So, I'm very freaked out to say the least.

Can someone say "There, There, Lisa"???

Well, I can do it....."There there Lisa".....don't fret it. It has happened to many of us. I read stories of folks 2 years later barely able to eat. But I got my appetite back at about 5-6 months, then fought the munchie monsters for a good while. Not that I eat large amounts all the time, but at some times and with some foods I can eat more than I wish. Some of that is normal and some is your new challenge. For me, I had to write down what I eat. I don't count calories necessarily, but just want to be accountable to see what I eat. Then I had to make rules about snacks (must be fruit, veggie, have 5 grams of protein, or be eaten along with something with 5 grams of protein). I headed back to counseling and Al-Anon. I focused on good food choices............and I kicked up the exercise a notch (ok, a few notches). Somehow, over some months (challenging ones where I came here panicked often), things worked their way into place, and although it is still work, I feel like more of it has become lifestyle for me. Now when I veer I easily and quickly get back on track and move along. So, it's not easy, but I think you are at the fork in the road......now is the time you decide if you'll "settle" or keep heading towards goal. You CAN do this......and you are not alone in your worries or your frustration.

You are at that point where the lesson of relearning how to eat will pay off. If those good eating habits are engrained, you will be fine. There are big pouch days and then it will remind you it is still there. At this point it is math and physics. If you eat less than you burn, it will come off. Maybe not as fast as you would like or the book says, but it will happen. Try not to get discouraged and look how close you are to goal. There there, you CAN DO IT

Lisa, I remember that freak out moment like it was yesterday. You are doing fine. Just because you can eat more, doesn't mean you HAVE to. Hugs!

I was able to eat more at 6 months also. But now at 9 months my pouch is actually filling up with less! I had plateaued for about 2 months and I thought I had finished loosing. But in the last 2 weeks I have lost 8 pounds. Go figure. Everyone else's comments are correct. Use the tool, exercise and eat healthy and you will be fine.

I am with ya girl. My pouch felt so much bigger at 4 months...but I keep to my cup of food. Some days I feel like I eat way too much...I look back in my food journal (yes, I am still doing it!) and I am lucky if I make 800 calories. Its a head game!

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, honey you gotta get more calories! You are doing awesome, but this will slow you down and leave you unhealthy in the long run. Just make them healthy calories. Keep up the good work.

Marty....I should have been a little clearer...I get 800 calories from food most days and then add in protein drinks to get the extra protein...and I guess calories...thus each protein drink adds 90 calories and 23g of protein. Most days I have one or 2, so the caloric intake is up to 1000. Its a struggle to get in that much food...I would have to eat more than a cup at a time to get it in, but that much food scares me. What do you think?
