Something strange happened....
Yesterday I had a normal breakfast of a protein drink, hot and sour soup for lunch (tofu) and about 10 blueberries. In the afternoon, I had my normal 16oz. of drink. I didn't do too much physical yesterday - a walk in the morning and general housework. I started to make supper at 5pm (salmon, rice, salad and green beans) and started to get dizzy in the kitchen. My hands started to shake and within a minute or so, the sweat was dripping off my forehead. My husband said I went really red. I made it to the bedroom and layed down. I felt so hot, yet my body was cold. In a few minutes I was so hot I turned the fan on. I felt so nauseated.
My temp was fine. My daughter brought me some blueberries and a few grapes and my water.
It felt like a dump to me, but I didn't eat anything for the past 4 hours or so. I thought maybe my blood sugar was low (I am not a diabetic, nor have every been) so I slowely ate the fruit.
Pre-surgery, I had low blood pressure and low heart rate. My sugars have always been normal to low. Thus I used to eat throughout the day. Its so funny to have this reaction, I have not had this since surgery and I have gone many days with little food nourishment (when I had a stricture) and had no funny feelings like this.
After about an hour, I was fine. Had supper and did normal things. Today is fine too.
Anyone else had something similar or have any insight as to what it might be?

Hot flash
Sounds like something hormonal to me...especially the getting red. Apparently weight loss plays havoc with estrogen levels. Would check it out with your doc though, Poddy.

Lisa I have had this feeling but just figured it was just hormonal and brushed it off. I would get that checked out ASAP if that feeling occurs again. Look who is talking I guess I should be making my way to see my PCP as soon as possible. Keep an eye on it sweety, glad you are feeling better.

I have it if i don't eat in time
y blood sugar drops, I get dizzy, sweaty, shake, and get nauseous. i immediateky grap a mozzarella stick, sit down and wait. As soon as protein kicks in, I get better. It happens a lot and for me it isn't hormonal...it is lack of protein. My body just decides to warn me to eat.

I have an appointment to see the doc, but as it only happened one time and it could be lots of things I wonder if he will do anything about it. I am scheduled next week for my 6 month blood work up, so maybe something will show up there.
Outside of this incident, I feel fantastic...it was really weird...felt like a dump. Glad that having a little fruit helped and if it happens again I will look to protein and fruit and see if it helps. I just bought 2 more containers of Nectar Protein. Great stuff...I now have fruit medley, citrus tea and strawberry/kiwi. 23g of protein per scoop!
You mention hormones...any one in particular - estrogen ??

Lisa,
Based on my experience, I think your blood sugar dropped too low. As a diabetic (before surgery) every time that hapened to me when I would check my blood sugar it was always TOO low.

If you felt IMMEDIATELY better after having the fruit, I would definitely get my blood sugar checked. I hope you are OK, I really love your posts and have learnt alot from you.

When I was doing all the construction around the house, I found myself getting dizzy occasionally and had to increase my carbs. I just added a couple extra carby (is that a word) style snacks and then I didn't have that problem. I am sure it had something to do with the lack of sugar in the system, but I have never been bothered by it before. Now I make sure I take a protein bar high in carbs with me on my hikes or in case of serious exercise. Good luck, lets just hope it is something simple. Mike

I have this problem occaisionally when I go too long with out food. It is pretty frightening. But as soon as I get some food going in my body again it is happy. I have never had the turning red part, but the rest I have. I know it has scared my wife pretty good a couple times.
