My one and only regret is not having the surgery sooner. As far as how much and how fast you loose RELAX . My first year have blown by. I still have 73-83 pounds to go before my goal but even if I only loose 8-10 pounds a month I will still make my goal. Just remember take one day at a time and allow your body to heal and you head to catch up.

Default Thanks for the Support!

I feel much better today, without all the crying!

Yesterday wasn't so emotional but more physically draining, as I was extremely tired and needed to sleep most of the day. Later in the afternoon, I had a fainting spell, which prompted more tiredness and sleeping. (My doctor isn't sure what caused the fainting and said that if it happens again, I have to come into the emergency room.)

But my post wasn't just about food, it was more about the ick side effects of having my gallbladder removed plus, I guess, the surgery in general. Thankfully today, all those side effects are gone, except for the need to brush my teeth multiple times a day! Does that ever get better??

I think everyone else has answered your post really well so there is not much else to say; I'll keep it short & sweet;
I LOVE MY RNY!!!!!!
I wish I'd had it done at 27 (& hopefully rid myself of 10 years of misery, yo-yo dieting & feeling like an outcast in society).
If anyone tried to take it away I'd fight them tooth & nail.
I was the worst post-op patient you could imagine for the first month but now I feel it was so worth it & I'm still only half way there really.
I truly hope you feel as good as me at 5 months out - best wishes.
(So much for short hey?)

Shauna,

I was almost the same as you, I'm 2½ weeks over my RNY(Lap). The sicky feeling and when will I be back to feeling normal again are starting to wear off thankfully.

My biggest problem was having to go away for surgery(Belgium), coming home help boost me so much.

I did feel physically drained this weekend as I just finished my first week back at work and now I'm finding that when I haven't eaten I'm feeling a bit weak.

But with regard to regrets, no thankfully none. The way I saw it for myself is I couldn't have continued as I was. I'm 30 next year and when it came to a head I want at least another 30 years and those 30 were to do the things that my weight restricted me from doing in the past.

Hopefully you'll start to feel better and look forward to the new options ahead of you

I had to brush CONSTANTLY - the metallic nasty taste is usually your body going into ketosis - which is when you are doing almost no carbs and you're body is burning alot of fat. It was normal, but gross, and it does pass. You can also try sucking on a sugar free mint when you feel the need.

I regretted it for a day or two when I was emotional too - it's the head part - getting used to this whole new life - it's SO worth it - I feel terrific and according to those who know and love me, I look terrific. I haven't felt this good in a long time, and the boost to your health will be worth it.

Hang in there, because those first few weeks are a rollercoaster while your body and hormones and brain all try to work in harmony. Welcome to the losing side and good luck with everything.

I am 2 months post op today and finally getting over the regrets. I have felt good for the last 1 - 2 weeks. The first six weeks for me were filled with regrets. Every time I ate or drank anything I felt sick and that stemmed a new bout of regrets. At the end of week 6 everything started to change. I can now drink water and not feel sick. My husband and I went to dinner this weekend and I had lobster stuffed ravioli with shrimp & lemon sauce and I was able to eat and felt fine. (I only ate 1 ravioli and 1 shrimp) The biggest key for me and eating was to slow down. If I eat slow, I can eat a couple bites of almost anything(as long as it doesn't have sugar). I didn't think the regrets would ever go away but they have. I have lost 58 lbs - never would that have happened without this surgery. Good luck to you.

Shauna, NO regrets. I'm just over a year out, and 84 lbs down. It's a wonderful tool, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Hopefully I'll feel so different in the near future and will be more knowledgeable on the long term effects of the surgery. I thought that I knew 'it all' pre-op but have found that I don't know as much as I wished that I had known.

There are even worse complications and risks for a reversal...it's only done in extreme circumstances. There's soo much scar tisure and atropy involved that a reversal is extremely difficult, lenghty, and longer recovery. It's almost like a man who had a sex change and regrets it.....can't every really go back....

As for regrets....I don't believe in them. It's choice you make, for better, worse, or indifferent. Even if you made the choice to not have the surgery....then you'd be second guessing why you didn't go through with it. Each choice has it's pros and cons....some of which you may not see the results from for many years. I had no problems with the GBS initally....yet, 2 1/2 years later I was in the ER for a sudden gastric bleed that they couldn't figure out why I had it.

Prior to GBS, I had only my wisdom teeth removed. Since GBS, I have been in the ER twice and had 2 plastic surgeries. In spite of all the issues, I would do it all over again and again.

I am only 4 weeks out and I have no regrets and things are already pretty much normal for me. I feel great and are down 21 pounds since surgery, 30 pounds since my pre-op diet. It feels great and I am only a fourth there!

GOOD LUCK ON GETTING BETTER! YOU CAN DO IT

Talking You should not regret it!

Well first of all you would not have had to have worried if you didnt have the surgery and being an old lady cause being morbidly obese you may have never seen old age so the decision you have made was a good one for you. I was just skimming through before and after pictures yesterday in the Members Photos section and was thinking to myself WOW it is just amazing the transformation we have made and I also thought wow those of us who have not had any PS hide that skin awefully well...lol...its been a blessing to me for health reasons and not to mention my entire life is just so much better I am more then 2 yrs out and still have eyes bigger then my stomach, its very weird at first right after surgery cause you always think there is no way I am not going to be able to not eat then when you take a few bites and you feel so full you think OMG something is wrong that is not very much food how is someone suposed to survive on a few bites of food like that...well we all do and it totally pays off. You will be fine and just know you are totally normal and we are all looking forward to those after pictures of you in a few months when you post I am so happy I got the surgery done. Take care and good luck with your life changing journey ahead.
