Default Hungry

Ok, since surgery (June 22) I have had to force myself to eat and drink. I have just felt so full I haven't wanted anything. Today, I feel like I could eat a whole pizza (I wouldn't even touch pizza). I am so hungry, not head hungry either, I can feel it in my pouch. Should I just keep drinking and maybe eat a little extra protien? I haven't been getting enough protien, we are supposed to have between 40 and 50 grams a day and I have been getting about 30 to 35 grams. Any suggestions? Did I 'break' or 'fix' something now that I'm hungry and thirsty?

You are still very early out, and no you didn't break anything. I would go through waves of "cravings" and want something, but didn't know what. I think its a normal phase we go through. I don't have that anymore and I am almost 6 months out. I could get in very little food the first 6 weeks and slowly increased intake for nutritional sake. I am at a cup of food now.

Key things are to keep the protein levels where they need to be (approx 50-70g day) and keep hydrated. I had a hard time getting in all my protein early on and I wasn't too worried about it until a few months out. If you can get in protein supplements, thats the key - liquid protein if you can't eat the amount you need.

Hang in there...your journey will change every week you are farther out.

It was recommended to have at a minimum of 50-60g and go up to 100g/day of protein. You may need more protein and calories. I would make some smart choices and put more protein into you. Some low fat string cheese or cottage cheese are great compact sources. Let us know how it goes.

Default String Cheese

I actually had a 1/2 a piece of LF string cheese about 10:30am like a little mid-morning snack. I thought if I can get in some 'extra' protien I would. My drinks are going down so much easier today too. I can't drink any protien drink, I have tried sooo many, none of the will stay in my pouch. I just don't understand why it seems to have happened so fast. Yesterday I noticed it was a little easier to eat and drink, but today I feel sooooo good, I'm actually worried that I feel too good

Since you are feelinging better, it may signal healing, and your body's need fro moreprotein. My doc recommended 90 grams right outta surgery, but stressed hydration the first couple of weeks. Now I average about a cup of food (although with this hot weather, I may only "eat" once per day, but I get my protein from Atkins shakes or EAS shakes), and between 90 and 120 grams of protein per day (I am also working out 5x per week). You will get there too. Just try to get to know your pouch and the signals it sends to you

Do you eat a cup of food all day or a cup of food at each meal? and 90 - 120 grams of protien I can't even get myself up to 50 yet. Wow.

Also, scrambled eggs were one of my go-to foods in the early stage - you can sprinkle low fat cheese on top, and a little hot sauce or salsa if you like. I also liked non-fat refried beans, with a little LF cheese on them. And keep drinking as much as possible. It really does get better every week.

I get almost all of my protein in from a protein drink. I mix it with milk and it tastes like chocolate milk, so I love it. I have noticed that I am not even interested in eating anymore now since I am back on the full liquids diet. I may have one yougurt a day and the rest is protein drinks. I worry sometimes now that I will not want food anymore when I can have it. This cannot be a good thing. I thought I would starve to death at about four to five weeks out and was having major hunger pains, but those pains subsided and I don't have any now. So it is normal to have hunger pains.
