Default 6 days out post op.. Need advise!

Hi all.... things are going good for me. I think I am getting used to the new me, but I question my progress. I did not get much in today and feel fine but I find I really have to push to eat everything I am suppose to in a day, is this normal? Has anyone out there had a hard time drinking water? I have such an upset stomach most of the day that I dont want to eat. I have been getting in protein shakes and the protein in my Tre Puree meals, and then of course my water. Since I have been home I have lost 14 pounds (3 days) It is crazy!!

I would love to hear how everyone else's first week went! Can you tell me your success stories with eating the first week?

Creamed soups and sugarfree Jello. I went on to try Taco Bell refried beans and lived on them forever. I had the cream soups with water though. Bean and bacon soup made me throw up...it was the Bacon. I still can't eat bacon.

[font="Fixedsys"]Well I also was kinda worried at first, Im 2 wks out but all I could eat at first was Jello and broth. but as long as you feel good thats what matters I kinda got chewed out cuz I had steak last week and the doctor almost had a heart attack, but i felt that it was protein so it was ok.. bottom line is if you feel good then your cool. Just try to get at least 50grms of protein a day. I found some puddings called silvester stallon puddings and the are sooooo good and they have 20grms of protein and no carbs so thats half of what you need and try hard boiled eggs or scrambled eggs and egg whites, fruit like watermelon or melons thats what I do.. I have shrimps, fish and fish soup.. but you'll be fine

This sounds normal to me.

You might want to try adding "True Lime" to the water. I find it is tasty and makes the water go down more easily. http://www.truelemon.com/purchaselime.html

Congrats on the -14 pounds Julee. You are lucky you get to eat a week post-op I remember my surgeon ot wanting me to eat anything until about my 2 week mark. I was not happy about that situation but I made it to almost 2 weeks them I had to break down and eat some cream soup, mmm it was the best. Whatever you try for the first time, do it at home. You never know how your pouch will react. Do you have a pouch name picked out yet?

I'm 8 days post-op and all I can have extra now is pudding, yogurt, and protein shakes/milk.

I can't start pureed food until next week

And yay on the 14 pounds!!

Yep, could barely eat and drink....hated it....dreaded it......for about 3-4 months. But it is important for your health and your fat loss to do your best to get protein and calories. Yep also to water on the pouch. I did lots of tea, hot cocoa, and milk. I still have a tea habit that I plan to keep. You are doing great....relax.

Default Jello

I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks. So I had Orange and Lime jello (the only 2 flavors that 'agreed' with me) and crystal light. 'Fred' (my pouch) still does like plain water, just a sip makes me sick. Now I'm just trying to get as much protien as I can. I'm so glad to see you finally got your surgery, I can't even dream of what you were going through. I know you will do fine, just keep smilling and thinking... sip, walk, rest, sip, walk, rest

Getting in the fluids was the hardest part. The goal of more than 60 ounces is just that...a goal. I struggled to get in 30-40 ounces in the first few weeks. It wasn't until about 4-6 weeks I consistently hit more than 60 and now I can drink 80 easily.

You are perfectly normal. Just try to do the best you can.

I too was on clear liquids for the 1st- 2 weeks.

Pouchie doesnt like cold water, so it was room temp water, crystal light, fruit 2 0 ( when I could stand it ) , SF popsicles, decaf coffee, chicken broth, SF jell-o.

Now at a little over a month out,and still on pureed foods, I have cottage cheese, SF pudding, ( Sylvester Stalones Protein banana pudding YUM!) , Whey protein shake ( vanilla) and I mix strawberries, or blue berries, banana, or peanut butter ( low sugar kind) . I eat a lot of baby food - Beechnut has 8 grams protein and 0 crbs for 2 1/2 oz jar of chicken, beef and turkey! Egg beaters (scrambled eggs) with cheese. Usually I will have either 2 saltine crackers or about 4 BAKED tortilla chips with dinner. LF ricotta cheese with salsa, refried beans with cheese and salsa.

Most of the really creamy stuff like cottage cheese, pudding, yogart ( lite and fit) and baby food, cream of wheat, grits, etc. I will add about 1 to 2 teaspoons of natural (unflavored) protein powder. You can not even tell it is in there...

BUT --- lol I tried some of that protein powder in my coffee and it balled up like little chunkies and was quite nasty heheh

And I try to add somethnig different every couple of days, not just for variety, but to see if I can handle it.

I worry about getting enough protein in every day, but I have found that it really helps (this early out) to add some protein powder to mushy stuff.

So glad to hear everything is going good with you! Awesome so far on the WL ! Keep it up!
