What is your story 2 weeks post op??
I KNOW I will here 100 times how everyone is different here.. But I am the one that has had surgery canceled on me 2 times in the last month and have an upcoming trip to Vegas on the 20th of July (surgery on the 7th) Needless to say, I thought I would be down a good 40 pounds by the time of my trip (original surg date May 23), so I am a bit bummed I will not be nearly down that much... I am willing to do everything I can (within means of course).. in a healthy way.. To lose a decent amount in the first 2 weeks for my trip. I think the more I walk within the guidelines the better, so I am ready for walking while in Vegas. I understand that is important in the healing process.. AND do not plan on overdoing it, but I definately do not want to be under doing it! With all that... it made me curious..
How much did you all lose your first 2 weeks post op? and did you do the walking as prescribed? If they let me do more, I would like to.. I just dont want to over do it! Give me details on your first 2 weeks postop.
Am I dreaming that I will be ready for my trip? Do you think losing 20 pounds post op 2 weeks is not realistic?

The weight will come off so fast the first two weeks no matter how much you walk. You may get an extra pound or two off, but you will be exhausted. I lost 23 pounds in the first two weeks and I only walked around malls, and stores. No formal exercise. I started water aerobics at 3 weeks.

The first 2 weeks were more emotional and being tired than anything else. I had open, not lap so that may have made a difference. Its hard to project what you will be able to do 2 weeks after. At 2 weeks a 3 hr car trip did me in. Walking was only around the block...maybe.
Just let things fall into place and make the choices then. Don't worry about the number on the scale that early out (it varies greatly and won't make any difference on your trip).

I had lost 18 pounds at the 2 week mark. I don't know what your Dr says but I was still on mostly SOUP at te 2 week mark.
I mostly stayed home until day 10 after surgery - just walking but not very fast, then on day 11, I went on a hike with my hubby and the kids - it was a flat wheelchair friendly hike at our local mountain, but it was exercise!!
I was TIRED and sore at the 2 week mark!!

Ok, not sure about how much you will lose.....I was focused more on monthly weights. BUT, I did go on a major trip about 2 1/2 weeks out. I did fine. I had to reel myself in emotionally a lot. I wanted to be snappy sometimes when it was not totally warranted. I was tired some, but I walked HOURS during it. We flew from Ohio to CA......went to Disney, Universal, etc. I will tell you honestly the worst part was nourishment. I had so much trouble being out and about and trying to get calories, protein, and beverages. At that point I was having trouble with supplements, plain water hurt the pouch (ever notice most places have water or diet pop for no sugar diets?), and I struggled. So, make sure you take supplements you can tolerate, lots of little containers or coolers to pack things with you when you head out. That was my only real problem. Oh, I also wore Ted Hose for the plane since we should walk to avoid clots and that isn't real feasible. I exercised my feet while sitting also. Good luck!!

Wow, kudos to you Julee for taking a trip 2 weeks post op. There is no way I could have done it. The eating alone was a full time job. I walked 20 minutes a day, twice a day and it was exhausting. At two weeks it was all about protein and water. That is all I could think about. Good Luck!!

I was not doing anything at 2 weeks out.I sooooo over tired and could care less about doing anything.
Some people say they feel geat right after surgery...maybe you will be one of them.
Have fun and don't push yourself too hard.

Wow
I'm doing great at one week post-op, but I can't even think about what I might weigh. Don't forget that you put on many pounds of fluid weight during the surgery, so it may take at least a week for them to come off - I don't know.
And although I am doing really well, and will be playing violin at a wedding at exactly two weeks post-op, I don't know how much running around I'll feel like doing. I do walk 30 minutes or so twice a day - so maybe I'll be better off than I imagine, but do plan on some down time, just in case!
Frankly, I wouldn't worry about the weight that early - not much you can do anyway. Just rest up for your trip and have a great time.

Man... I guess I can only hope that I do well with no complications and that I can manage in a smart way while I am there. UGHHHHHHH. If I did not have everything planned I would probably cancel so that I dont run into any surprises, but unfortunately I have had this trip planned since January.
So now I am thinking..Obviously post op from what you are all saying I have to careful with protein and water.. When I get there I will have to stock up on some of the essentials as I am sure the casinos wont be selling a bowl of cottage cheese too readily!! Any suggestions on what I could get for down there to maintain my nourishment so I do not get run down? I dont want any surprises!! I will have to stock up on bottled water!!

Get some powdered mixes

If you do stock up on bottled water, make sure to get some of the powdered mixes to add to it - I'm nine months out now and still can't drink water plain--hurts Matilda the pouch.
Regarding the question of what was I doing at two weeks out, I was pretty much psychotic from the exhaustion and the pain meds, and was sobbing on the phone to my best friend something on the order of "what have I done!" Every single person is different--and here's hoping you have a great time.
Hotel service can be great in Las Vegas, according to where you're staying. If there's not one in your room, request a fridge--they'll be happy to bring you one. And there are grocery stores, just not on the Strip. Go down to where Tropicana Avenue crosses the Strip (the corner that has a massive casino on each side, New York, New York, the Trop, Excalibur, and MGM) and go east on Tropicana--as soon as you get past UNLV, there are grocery stores galore, Walgreens, etc. I lived in Las Vegas for four years...
