Regarding the question of what was I doing at two weeks out, I was pretty much psychotic from the exhaustion and the pain meds, and was sobbing on the phone to my best friend something on the order of "what have I done!" Every single person is different--and here's hoping you have a great time.
Hotel service can be great in Las Vegas, according to where you're staying. If there's not one in your room, request a fridge--they'll be happy to bring you one. And there are grocery stores, just not on the Strip. Go down to where Tropicana Avenue crosses the Strip (the corner that has a massive casino on each side, New York, New York, the Trop, Excalibur, and MGM) and go east on Tropicana--as soon as you get past UNLV, there are grocery stores galore, Walgreens, etc. I lived in Las Vegas for four years...

Hey thanks for the great advice! So when you say powder mixes, what do you mean exactly. That is one thing I feel kind of blank on is the after part. They did not really say what to stock up on other than puddings, jello, broths, etc. OH I PRAY I AM A LUCKY ONE and have little problems!! Man, Lord knows I have been around the block twice now with this, something is bound to come out right!!

So now I am thinking..Obviously post op from what you are all saying I have to careful with protein and water.. When I get there I will have to stock up on some of the essentials as I am sure the casinos wont be selling a bowl of cottage cheese too readily!! Any suggestions on what I could get for down there to maintain my nourishment so I do not get run down? I dont want any surprises!! I will have to stock up on bottled water!!

What phase will you be on? That's going to make a big difference in what we can suggest.

I had my surgery back east and just before 2 weeks out I flew back to Arizona for school to start back up again. I was still a bit sore and whacked out because I had a complication and they had to go in twice. I have a really high pain tolerance so I was fine when I got to AZ. My Mom came back with me to take care of me for a few days and after that I was good to go.
If you are going to Vegas I would highly recommend bringing water. I know the temps there are just slightly below Phoenix and it is HOT!

Crystal Lite and some of the other sugar-free drinks now have powders you can mix directly with water in the bottle, to basically make sugar-free Kool-Aid. Everybody tolerates different stuff differently post-surgery, and what you like before is not necessarily going to taste right to you afterward, so it's hard to say what flavor. That's why I'm saying shop after you get there and ask for a fridge. Not worth lugging stuff through the airports. Personally, the only taste I've stuck with is iced tea with Splenda...

1 week out
Like Gina, I am just 1 week out and really feel I could do about anything (except lift things, I'm scared of that). I do get a tired a little quicker than I used to, but I just keep drinking and drinking and drinking. The worst part for me is my surgeon is keeping me on clear liquids for 2 weeks. Otherwise, I'm good to go. Like everyone says, each person is different, however, with all of us praying and keeping good thoughts for each other, I think that helps alot!!

Personally, I lost 23lbs in the first 10 days. Then I moved onto pureed foods and I haven't had trouble with anything so far [I am 19 days out, currently] except after eating some canned chicken and oyster crackers. I think I didn't chew as much as I should have towards the end and I felt nausious for an hour or so. I actually JUST flew into Baltimore, MD and the flight went well and I felt okay. I am just going to enjoy my vacation [visiting home] and keep sippin`!

I was on liquids only for 3 weeks! argh I couldn't have gone on a trip after two weeks out. I wasn't ready. I was exhausted! Bring some carnation instant breakfast (the sugar free for the "carb conscious"). That should helpw with some of your proteint. Mix it with 2% milk.

Check out your surgeon's diet instructions
I'm on clear liquids plus fat free milk for two weeks. I see my surgeon on July 5th and he'll clear me for mooshy food. I'm living on Propel mixed with water, chicken broth, SF jello and SF ice pops. I have snuck a few protein drinks in - I got Isopure from GNC because it is so close to clear liquid. I just was feeling so weak after walking, I needed a little more umph. And it was just 6 or 8 oz over an hour.
Anyway - you must find out what your surgeon wants you to eat. Mine requires 80 ounces a day of fluids. It is a full time job! And only warm broth is always easy. Sometimes even the water/Propel hurts a little.

I was no where ready for a trip at 2 weeks either. I was still very sore and tired. But hopefully you wont be. I live close to Vegas and it is HOT right now. Hopefully as long as you can rest when you need to you will be alright. I am a big baby- I would probaley postpone the surgery till after the trip seeings they are so close together now-- especially if the trip can't be postponed.

I have a bunch of those, but haven't used them a lot. I think I was thinking of restaurants....and duh.....I don't drink at all there. So, instead I will buy plain bottled water, which is much cheaper than the flavored ones and use up my drink mixes. My question is......do they leave you enough space at the top to mix it in, or do you dump water out? Do you ened up needing 1 1/2 or 2 packets instead of just one?
