Can't sleep...
Okay- I'm home and sipping, walking, farting, but when do I get to sleep? I had my surgery last Wednesday and I dread the nights!!! It's so terrible. I rest during the day, walk, do all the stuff I am supposed to but by nighttime I am miserable. I don't let myself sleep through the day so I will maybe be tired at night. And believe me I'm exhausted- I just can't get comfortable for very long. I sleep for an hour in the recliner, go to the bed for an hour or two, but never soundly. I have never been able to sleep on my back so this is REALLY that much harder for me. I cried and cried last night just wanting to curl up on my side and sleep but can't because it's too painful. I even tried some Tylenol PM last night- no luck. Anyone else with any sleeping dilemnias? So sleepy.....

Didn't your doctor give you some pain medication? Call and get some! I took darvaset since Friday and it really has helped me. Call the doctor and complain! You need to sleep to heal!!!

I think most of us went through a period of not sleeping after surgery. It is pretty common, I did it. It will pass and you will sleep fine, hang in there and sleep when the urge hits you.

I slept on a recliner after surgery for 3 weeks. I tried at 2 weeks to get back into bed, but went back to the recliner after 2 hours b/c I was so unconfortable. When I went back to bed at 3 weeks, I propped myself up in the back and on my sides, and gradually took pillows away and rearranged them til I was left with the one I sleep with. By week 4 I was back to normal, but I was just changing positions very carefully. It does get better...promise!!

I had some sleeping issues the first week or two but I started to settle into my new tummy. Nice warm shower and some pain medication and I was out like a light. If the restless nights continue I would run it pass your doctor and see what he/she thinks might be going on and what they might be able to do to help you rest better.

Gina- I took the last of my pain medicine Saturday. They gave me a liquid Percocet to take every 4 hours which I did and usually tried going longer between each dose supplementing with Tylenol. I was pretty much out of medicine by Saturday-it seemed a little strange to me. I'm a nurse and I see people get WAY more pain meds for LOTS less problems and thought I would have more. I'm not too worried about it now. I'm not in too much pain- just uncomfortable at night but it sounds like that is par for the course. How was your trip to the gym? I'm actually thinking of venturing out tonight to go play poker with a group of friends that i play with weekly. I'll let you know. Thanks for the support------here's to losing!!!!!!!

The sleeping will eventually happen. I went through about four weeks of not sleeping in the beginning. Just relax, and try not to stress about it. S

I had surgery on June 22 and have had the same problem. I'm staying with my parents because I live alone and that might be very nice. They have 2 pull out sofa's and about 3 recliners, and my brother isn't home so his bedroom is empty. I go from bed to bed to recliner to bed, each getting about 2 hours sleep. Not good, but it seems to be working for me.

Hey Congrats on the surgery...trust me it gets better...I had this same problem it sucks so much!!! My Doc said I could sleep however I wanted to as long as it didn't hurt, so if you try your belly and it doesn't hurt you are ok, I also took a pillow or my Cough buddy bear and laid on my side and pushed it against me, yet I still never got much sleep the first week, week and a half...you will see it gets better...good luck and I hope it gets better I know it will...
